"Commanders" is too many syllables. Every other team is only 1-2 syllables, with the exception of the Patriots and Buccaneers - which are usually shortened to "pats" and "buccs".
Shortening commanders sounds a little.. uh..

The super sonics we're named after a government funded commercial airliner that was never made, in a city that still has never produced a single super sonic manned aircraft. Pretty dumb name over all.
