i cant change my default homepage in IE... it is defaulted to some porn site... i go to internet options and the part where you change your homepage is faded and you cant change it... no unfamiliar programs are running in the background, wtf is going on...

i had my homepage set to google, now it is set to Link Deleted

i clear my history, then open up IE, and in my history bar a porn link shows up... what the hell...

I would really appreciate it if you did NOT post crap like that again.

what the hell? nothing was on that site

I've had this happen. Check out your programs folder and whatnot, I'll bet a porn site somewhere installed a program on your computer that is making IE do this (that's what happened to me). When you find it, unistall/delete it.

Also try clearing the temp and temporary internet files folders and make sure there's nothing in the startup folder.

ok there are 2 folders that are looking suspicious... one was created this afternoon and is called 'microsoft frontpage'

i dont have any office products installed on my computer... it wont let me delete it because it says another program is using its BIN folder... another fold is called MedCH... never seen it before, also created today, i tried deleting it, but when i start IE back up, it reappears..

If you're convinced that those are the problem folders, you could always reboot, hit F8, select Command Prompt Only, and use your elite DOS skillz to delete those directories. That way, Windows won't be using them, and you'll be able to delete them.

ok... i get IE windows popping up all over... i think it was because of morpheus (or something i downloaded off from morpheus...)

can someone do a search on their computer if you are running 2000 for 'hidserv.exe'

what else can i try? how do i get a boot menu... F8 doesnt do it... my only other option is bios... grrrrrr.... i hate morpheus

if i even have to format to fix this im gonna cry

Can you run regedit? do a search for that page that's set as your homepage (probably best to search for it without the http), if it comes up with anything, change it to google and then restart your computer. Hopefully that'll at least take care of that part, but you probably do have a virus or something.
I would install AVG and Ad-aware.

thats not all im worried about though... i keep getting IE windows popping up every few minutes with porn on em... i dont know how to get rid of em...

AVG...hang on I'll get the address for you.

edit:

here

I looked at the page that's set to your default, and it looks like it runs some sort of script which may be what's installing the virus or whatever it is, so it's important to get your homepage set to some other page, too.

When you have Morpheus running it will automatically open ad windows occasionally for you. To verify that it is morpheus, close Morpheus and let it run in the Traybar. It shouldn't open any ad-windows after that.

Additionally, to see if you have any SpyWare running on your computer that might be interfering with your IE settings I would recommend downloading Ad-Aware, it is a free anti-Spyware program that can help clean out those programs safely. If the problem persists, try a virus scanner. Like others have said the Microsoft FrontPage directory is a Windows 2000 thing, but MedCH might not be something legit.

Good luck!

i ran adaware... it found 13 cookies and got rid of em... but heres the problem... everytime i start up IE, it goes to that fake google site and grabs a bunch of popups... i need to get that out of there...

hmm...you have to admit, its kidna funny. but yeah, thats a bitchy problem. why don't you reinstall IE?

Already tried changing the homepage in the registry?

Go to any other page, drag & drop the IE logo page onto the HOME icon... it will ask you "Do you wish to set THIS PAGE to your homepage" and choose yes.

If it won't set, then something's overriding your registry.
