I saw a special about this on tv a week or so back. It was interesting, because at one of the sites where a body was thrown in the water, somebody left a very obscure message with spraypaint across the street from the lake on the wall of a building. I forgot what it was, but it definatly didn't make any sense.. and next to the message was a smiley face.

A few weeks later there was another similar death.. the name of the street that the body was dumped in a lake on was what was written in spraypaint on the wall at the previous murder site several states away.

That's my first impression. It also doesn't jibe with what the article says:

The detectives also believe the victims were targeted. All of the young men were popular, athletic and good students.

Who would commit this type of crime?

"The type of person that would be the opposite, not smart, someone not good in school, maybe doesn't have a job, not popular," Duarte said.

I'm not picturing a stupid guy calling himself "Evil Happy Smiley Face Man".

40 Guys Savagely Killed!

Odd how few people even viewed or posted to the original topic I started. As if "(yawn) 40 more guys serial killed. How mundane." Talk about pathetic forum poster apathy.:thumbsdown:

The message at the one site was the location of another body.

This is a bit old news, but very current. There is definitely a connection between the bodies and smiley faces popping up. Just that no one can be sure the murderer is the one leaving them vs someone equally nuts traveling around leaving a 'smiley shrine' to the victim.

It's messed up either way. Murder is usually easy to solve with motive, when it's just random it's very hard to figure out esp if the murderer has never been finger printed or arrested before.

The Black Dahlia and other celebrity stories are interesting unsolved crimes as they involved high profile victims.
