If you weren't informed of the dues before you were hired you should sue either the union or the supermarket or both. Contact your union steward first, you might learn that they don't even want any part-timers, but they may make some accomodation. Given such a fee structure, it isn't really ethical for them to hire part-timers. Good luck finding a different job.
 
I forgot the law or whatever it's called, but unions were allowed to take their dues from all people who work at a certain place, because all of those who worked there reaped the benefits of the union's work. Teachers deal with the same thing and it's 4450+ per year, depending on your district.
 
I won't work at union places because of this.

As a teenager, the union does just about absolutely nothing for me. I'm not worried about job security, benefits, or any of that because I'll only be there for four months or so.

But as an employee, the union expects the same contribution from me as from all the other full-timers.

Basically, the OP worked for 0 dollers and hour one week and .50 an hour the next week. I thought unions existed to prevent this kind of thing . . . .

Depending on the union, they some times are not to take money if the check is not over a give ammount, you might want to check into that with your manager.
 
id quit, and go somewhere else, where you dont have to do that, thats really dumb, 9 hours and you got 2 bucks... yeah, definetly quit
