I dont see your point. Why are you so upset here?

Because I should be able to do whatever the fuck I want to my console. I don't have a mod chip, but if I want to install it on something I paid for I should be able to.

Well considering that it's illegal to have a mod chip... obviously Nintendo doesn't want people to pirate their console games
Go protest for things that are legal

It's Nintendo's right to require any update they want. It's all in the fine print that you idiots don't bother reading. If you don't like their policies, remember to read the fine print first and don't buy their products if you disagree with their T&C.

what's the big deal then? PSP has been doing this, and eventually the PS3 likely will: certain games will come preloaded with certain updates that have to be installed. It's because the game was coded with that update in mind, possibly taking advantage of better system code or something along those lines.

PS3 already does. Also, just because Sony does it does not mean it's good. I absolutely hate having to upgrade to play a game.

It sounds to me like you do have a modchip on your Wii, and just dont want to screw up your warezplaying system with a system update. People with legit consoles wouldnt be getting so angry at an UPDATE that helps IMPROVE the system they are playing.

Nice detective work. :roll::roll::roll:

I do not have a modchip on my Wii, and have never pirated anything in my life, so you can take your baseless accusations and go fuck yourself. If I did install one, it would be for home brew/development purposes. I did it with my DS, and feel that a system update shouldn't render my console useless if I wanted to do the same with my Wii.

Shens.

Then why are you crying so much about an update? This isn't like it's going to KILL you to update your console. It takes maybe 3 minutes if even that to update?

Must be very entertaining to see you when windows update pops up...

As far as I can tell the update is just so you can play Super Mario Galaxy. Who knows what it does. As I said, it certainly doesn't negatively affect the functionality of a modded system.

Nintendo can not force an update on all Wii's. That's absurd. The vast majority of Wii owners DO NOT HAVE A WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION and have never updated their Wii!

Most consoles are simply connected to TV's and nothing else.

If Nintendo demanded that every gamer that buys the system have a wireless connection to play the newest games, there would be a a huge outcry..boycotts, etc

The only reason Mario Galaxy would ask you to update is if the game detected something abnormal in the system...like a mod chip.

The update is included on the SMG disk. I do not have an internet connection for my Wii, or any mod chip or whatever in place, and it automatically installed the update the first time I put in the game.

There's nothing abnormal about my system and it asked me to update, took about 4 seconds.

uhh, I think the point is that it is an update for people that don't have their wii connected to the internet.

Plus, the updates you download from the internet are different than the updates on the disc. At least I think so, since I'm pretty sure I was at the most recent firmware before I did the SMG update.

Anyways... THIS UPDATE DOES NOT AFFECT MODCHIPS! Aside from that concern, I can't see why anyone would care.

I just got home from GameStop, and I put MG disc in. I click on the box on the Wii Menu to launch the game, and it takes me to a screen that says:

IMPORTANT: If you do not want to accept this upgrade, you can shut down your Wii console and cancel the upgrade by holding down the Power Button for four (4) seconds. If your Wii consoles has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console.

WTF?

The funny thing is, that its a routine system update, the same kind that youve been installing for months, that has absolutely nothing to do with modchips. That screen is merely an empty threat.

It's possible that the difference is so minimal that it only affects the game, so it's not worth it to issue a universal update. This was the case with R&C.

Are you sure? Go into your Wii maintenance and look at your firmware version number. The latest internet update is 3.1 I believe.

I have a real hard time believing you don't warez or mod your console considering how angry you are in the OP over a patch that comes pre-packaged with the game. There is not a single reason beyond fear that it would break your mod that would justify such anger. Yea, yea you said in the thread that you don't warez, like I fucking believe you.

So your answer is you didn't want to update because you don't mod? Yeah...

You fail comprehension. mod != pirate

I never said I don't mod, I said I don't pirate. There is a difference. I had a modchip on my DS, and never did I pirate a game. I only used it for home brew. Does that make sense or should I break it down even more for you?

You can chip a DS? I didn't think you needed to with solutions like the R4DS.
