WTF...Windows XP "Red Edition"?

Okay, I work for a local computer company, and we're always building machines and such. We load WinXP Home onto pretty much everything we build, unless a customer specifically requests something different. Well, for some reason, our newest shipment of XP had all red CDs. The CDs have a pink/red tint to them on the label side (where it has all the holograms). Anyone know why MS is suddenly making red XPs? Do they symbolize something? Just curious.

I thought the mods were locking threads for using that "In Russia" stuff?

Perhaps those are the ones that have SP1 already on them to prevent the use of hacked cd keys? Just speculating here. I remmeber reading something some time ago about this thing but I could be wrong 🙂

not trying to be an a-hole, but i always hated it too... but thats some people's motive too.
never heard of the windows XP red... i try to stay away from XP... 😛

It's not SP1, because our older SP1 CDs were all the normal color. It's just in this last week we've started seeing these red ones.

It's not Media Edition, because it's WinXP Home, it installs as Home, and activates as Home.

Can't take any pics because there's no camera here at work.

local computer company and no cameras?

Might be some further "this is an authentic CD" thing.

AFAIK an "In Soviet Russia" comment isn't lockable by itself since the fad isn't at its height anymore. If a thread degenerated into everyone making statements like that, it would be locked for the same reason as other threads are locked, useless stupidity.

In Soviet Russia, the software activates you.

WinXP Red Edition: Chinaware

In an effort to fight piracy, Bill Gates has abandoned SD2, CD Keys, Product Activation, in favor of political appeal thru red communistic symbolism despite his company being the largest capital being in the world.

"hahahaha "

"Hahahahahaha..."

So how do you explain those responses? I thought it was kinda funny too....

Your sense of humor doesnt dictate what others on the board thinks is funny...

Now back to the topic =) I havent seen any of the red ones either, but thats kinda cool I guess....

It's not Media Center, because Media Center is not being sold. The only way to get Media Center is to buy a pre-made computer with it already installed by one of the big distributors (like HP).

I think it's funny. It makes me laugh every time I see it.
