I know this is the off topic forum, but i am not getting any responses in the OS forum...
I just built my first computer and when i installed XP, it made my system drive G instead of C. How do i fix this? I tried changing the drive letter in Disk Management, but it said you can't change the drive letter of a system drive. Do i have to reformat and start over? What can i do to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks in advance.

What is drive C, D, E, F. Are they other partitions you already had on your drive? When you set up XP, delete the old system partition, and create a new one. It should default to C when the OS is installed.

Actually you can't change the drive letter of your system partition from administrative tools. Partition Magic might let you do something like that, but I would rather just wipe the partition and start over.

Mine did that too once. I had my scanner plugged in that has slots for CF and Smartmedia, it labeled them first then the C drive. I left it that way and ran into a couple of problems installing software that would only go to the C drive.

You must start over and make sure nothing else is plugged in that will grab a drive letter before the hard drive.

On my current system XP put my dvd-rom, dvd+rw and zip ahead of the boot partition. The only thing I can figure is that I've got my hd hooked up to an external ata-66 controller (CUBX).
