This is going to sound quite crazy to some, but I'll do my best to relate this.

Our family believes in Yeshua (Jesus). While December 25th is not the day He was born, it is the day that the Christian church has agreed to commerate or celebrate His birth.

A portion of the belief is that Jesus was born to give the perfect gift of His grace to mankind. Without this grace, mankind would have no hope of redemption with the Father.

The reason we exchange gifts on the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus is to honor His gift to us.

We also had a birthday cake for Jesus and sang Happy Birthday.

As much as anything else, we are trying to teach our children (through our daily life) to love God with all our thoughts, feelings and actions and to love our fellow man as Jesus has loved us.

I hope this helps.

Why did you start this wacko tradition of giving jebus a birthday cake.

I certainly can understand how it seems quite odd.

As I mentioned, our family believes in Jesus and what he represents to Christianity. We believe that, while the day He was born is not known to us, it is a wonderful thing to be able to celebrate His birthday the way we celebrate our own birthdays.

It is particularly difficult to relate this in any more specific terms, because we haven't established a context for the discussion, other than you find the whole idea of a birthday cake and songs to be difficult to relate to or understand.

Wasn't Christmas originally a Pagan holiday and Jesus's birthday is on another date? Also that Jesus is a mistranslation of his true name?

no Jesus is accurate...it's actually Greek for Joshua

The simpletons that frequent ATOT never cease to amaze me. Sometimes I wonder if people post stuff like this in order to start an arguement or if they are just this stupid. Any takers?

What other christians do this strange practice.

I've heard of the milk and cookies routine but never cake. Hell, if my kids baked me a cake, I would be proud.

Isn't that more for Santa?

Heh, I guess. But I've never really heard of baking anything for Jesus on christmas.

Never heard of that, but I am Greek Orthrodox Christian and does everything a Christian should do.

So do you rape, murder, and enslave the heathens and their children.

:thumbsup:lol

I know nothing about this crap but the roots of Christmas are buried in some Pagan Holiday celebrating the Winter Solstice AFAIK. Now fetch me a goat to sacrifice.

Apparantly the pagans didn't sacrifice goats or other animals, but the idea originated from the people (Romans IIRC) who wanted people to switch from Paeganism to Christianity (Roman Catholic). They spread slander in order to undermine Paeganism.

The above may be completely incorrect; I forget the original source!

The short version is that the Roman Emperor, Constantine recognized Jesus as The Christ and issued the Edict of Milan in around 300 A.D.

(paraphrased quote from the Edict, as it isn't Latin 🙂)
We should let Christians and all others follow whatever religion they desire, so that whatever God there is in heaven may be happy and pleased with us.

There is much debate regarding the motivations of his conversion but I recall the debate being more along the lines of political vs spiritual motivation and did not necessarily involve slander against paeganism.

Are you out of your fscking mind? That was a pretty rude (and very stupid) thing to say.

Why are you attacking others' religious beliefs with zero provokation?

Ignorant Christians that believe it's honestly Christ's birthday or that the origins of Christmas have anything to do with Christianity at all.

I absolutely HATE the way the "christian" (and I use the term EXTREMELY loosely) church took over holidays and continues to brainwash people into believing their bullshit like "Jesus is the reason for the season" and the rest of the garbage.

The pegan holiday Christmas and the pegan rituals associated with it don't have jack to do with Christ, so quit pretending it does. Ugh. Rips me up.

Yeah, because it's entirely not possible for meanings of things to change over time.

I like connecting to the pagan aspects of the holidays. They're generally far more easy to understand and accept. There's a little bit of the nature worshipper in all of us, I think.

I don't have a problem with meanings changing, but I DO have a problem with the church hijacking the holiday. They're so goddamn aggressive and hostile that they have to take over someone else's holiday and tell everyone "you're wrong, christmas exists because of Jesus!" so much, knowing that idiots will buy into it and continue to brainwash others. It's sleezy and manipulative. The church feels the need to get their damn fingers into everything and THAT is what I have a problem with.

I want a fat pegan santa. I want a huge pegan snowman. I want fake flying light-up reindeer on my roof. I want snow and I want a GIANT pegan tree in my living room with all sorts of non-religious gifts under it. I want to sing loads of pegan christmas tunes at the top of my lungs and I want to do it without snobby stuck up overzealous dumbass christians thumbing their nose at me and preaching to me that I'm missing the true meaning of christmas.

I normally read most, but dont comment in religious threads because they ALL just end up the same way and I'm hardly here to try to convert anyone to what I believe in....
HOWEVER, DVK916 you seem to have a serious predisposition in all these threads and enter them just to rip on anything Christian. Do you have to be a jerk about it? Or is it just your nature to be an ass when people have faith different from yours?

Seriously, go back and read the comments that you have written in this and previous threads and tell me you feel good about them.
