Even if that's true (which I'm thinking that the hearing aid might whistle, but, not the phone)...

It only happens 10x after he calls to get a refund and can't, but before that was fine?

It IS true, my grandfather wears hearing aides. If he used them with certain phones, they whistle really loud. Some phones now are hearing aide compatibile. He impaired his hearing in WWII so he's used to them by now...
