I live on first floor of Pritchard Hall. We are right next to West Ambler Johnston. My friend ran into my room and woke me up and things began unfolding from there. One of my friends had to run across campus from McBryde (Close to Norris).
From that point everyone in my dorm was up and kind of shocked when we heard that one was dead. At that time we heard about the shooting at Norris. From that point reports were flying in about multiple shooters, multiple targets etc...
At one point we had a report from my Hall Director that there was a shooting outside the dorm across the street. We had to lock all the windows, shut the blinds and we were advised to lock our doors and get in the hall. In an all guys dorm, even all of us guys were kind of worried at that point.
We were ordered by police to stay in the dorm, but naturally you get some morons who decide to you walk outside anyways. We saw a guy walk out from another dorm and 2 police officers came out of no where. One pointed an assault rifle at him and the other just ran up and tackled him. After a few minutes they let him go back into the dorm.
Finally things began to narrow down and we heard the death toll begin to rise. People began to settle down and start mourning, calling loved ones, telling people we were ok. If you haven't heard it, try and find the report from one of the guys who was shot- it is so horrific what these students had to endure.
What we know about the killer is that he is Asian, and had a black leather jacket with clips attached throughout it. We heard that there was an altercation in AJ between a guy and his girlfriend. An RA (Residential Advisor) appeared to help break it up- the guy shot both of them. After that we aren't sure what has happened.
Everyone wants their school to be remembered in someway. No one ever wanted to have to be remembered in this way. My thoughts and prayers go out to my fellow schoolmates and their families. RIP to those who have passed away.
