WTF to PS3 design. Price revealed.

If you thought the XBOX 360 looked freakin weird... The PS3 looks like the PS2 mixed with the 2nd version of NES. Check it out. It looks more like a lack of design team than anything.

PS3 (says design subject to change without notice - maybe they might just want to change the design of that controller.)

Xbox 360 for comparison

I don't know which one is worse.

Price in Japan will be 460 bucks. It might come bundled here for 500, who knows, but still too much money for me. If that's what it's gonna cost, I'd still rather buy a computer.

I think they both look ugly. The best design in the past 10 years IMO is the PS2. Sleek and sexy~ The Dreamcast also follows close by for just LOOKING good...something that seems to be amiss from the consolve designs of this generation

I'm gonna quote myself from another forum:

I don't like Sony, but PS(3) > Xbox (360)...& BTW, what kind of lamer came up with the name 360.

Just because Sony had the PS3 doesn't mean MS needed to name theirs the same number

I think the PS3 edges out looking sexier being that it isn't too curvy. If only I didn't hate Sony. And if that controller... lol, didn't look so retarded. We'll see how it feels.

ooo that controller is funkay!

i like the PS3 design, though from some shots ive seen the quality of the plastic looks suspect....but its not coming for a whole year so im not worried.

i dont mind the xbox360 styling either, its pretty neat....but looks abit apple-ish

w00t, PS3 looks pretty slick. X-Box 360 doesn't look all that bad either, so I think they're both equal in that department.

The one thing they suck at is the controllers. Both look retarded, especially the X-Box 360 one. PS3's might be doable, but I'd rather use the very same DualShock II controller. Maybe if they released DualShock III? Or Logitech or some other controller maker could provide us with a PS3 controller that's exactly the same as the PS2 one? Or we could just use DualShock II if it's already backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1. *dies*

So many possibilities. Really, I don't think you should worry about it. Either leave it to Sony, or to Logitech and other similar manufacturers. 🙂

Wow, the controller looks absolutely horrible (doesn't look comfortable either). The console looks ok...better than the damn Xbox 360.

Thumbs up for Sony design again...at least looks a bit luxurious...not so cheap like the 360. Ok, ok the controller can also be used as a Boomerang... 😉
Waiting for the PS3 anyway as performance should be much better. Besides I will not use it for gaming too much, I just need a decent BluRay/HDTV player for the living room...and for streaming media via WLAN etc...and if they also price the PS3 around $/?299 this is one cheap mofo 😀

I love the PS3 console design although I don't know if I like the controller design. The PS3 looks like it will blend best with my other components and I love the choice in colors. I used to think that the PS1 controller was the worst controller ever when I first saw it and then after trying it, now feel it is the best design ever. So I've been wrong with my first impression before. Although I thought the Gamecube controller design was the dumbest controller ever in a console and after trying it, felt the same.

ugh. it may look nice and luxurious but the top is freaking curved!
I like to put my console down on a stack of equipment and have it blend in. the xbox did this fairly well, but the ps2 will never. looks like a piece of sheet metal stolen off a plane wing and the controller looks horrible too. i dont mind the xbox360 controller, just that it's a little small(i liked using the xbox original huge controllers) and has a too big battery pack. I think that with the buttons partially curving off the face so you have to respond to the X,Y and Z axis to press certain buttons is horrible(on the ps3). probaby as comftable as the horrid Gamecube controller. The triggers are placed on extremely curved back so holding it right without it coming out will be a b!tch. espically consideringyour fingers will be almost extended to reach the triggers.

looks like xbox360 with a faceplate for me.

I was pretty bothered with the fact that it support up to 7 controllers.
As people mentioned, why 7?
We can't play a fair team game with 7 controllers
8 would be better

May be becaue the Cell ha only 7 SPE intead of 8 since they disabled one 😀

Look at both side by side:

Aside from the controller, the XBOX 360 has... a really retarded name. Wait, let me start again. The XBOX 360 design looks fun. It's round and bubbly with the big power button. It sort of aims to be very simplistic and cute, but really loses that with the memory card slots and the expansion cover at the bottom of the console. It almost looks, in a way, very generic to what regular set-top boxes look like. The front seems to want to make you forget it's a machine with the vents on top, if laid horizontally, which ruins the illusion and just looks ugly. It seems that it was made to be stood up vertically, I don't know what is up with this trend. Overall, it seems to be just a simplistic box with some curvy delights, although, it might have been better to be just a simple box.

To me, the PS3 screems out sophistication. It has a very simplistic design, until you look at the expansion options in the back. It seems as though all hell breaks loose there. It also has followed the tower trend. That's it! The design is just hot.

It looks weird at first, but it definitely looks better than the Xbox 360, at least from the pictures.

I like the design of the 360 much more than the ps3. The ps3 is just trying to hard to look hi-tech, unpractical for an audio rack. I do like the specs better on the p3 so far though.
