I am watching a show and I check back 10-15 minutes later and 10 more spammers show up.
Good thing with xen-foro software is I can wipe out one guys 40+ posts with one stroke.

With vB, it was manually remove each thread. 40 posts would take at least 40 minutes. And that's just one spammer.

On a forum I manage I ended up implementing a a stealth moderation queue for new posters. Basically their posts don't show up for anyone except mods and themselves. So they think the post went through and move on. A mod can then approve or deny the post. When they approve it removes the stealth moderation flag for their account, if denied, it deletes all posts and the account.

I also had a spam filter at one point, it worked kinda like an email spam filter where certain keywords gave a certain amount of points and if you went over a certain amount it just auto deleted the post and the account. It would only activate for new accounts and like the first 5 posts. Somebody who knows about it could theoretically get around it though but it worked 99% of the time.

Yeah I wonder what the purpose of this spam is. Maybe it's some kind of communication to other people (ex: ISIS) via some kind of moon language where the posts are actually chunks of data to be decoded? Easy way of sending a secret message via an arbitrary network I guess. I recall reading something like this that Al Queda was doing using images posted on social media.

Don't blame the mods. If you could get someone to eagerly work for you for free, why wouldn't you? You take what you can get and let the little things like spam floods slide. The real value here is in the amazingly high quality of the discussions, as I'm sure you've all noted. LOL

If you stop them at the gate , they will ( eventually ) go away for good. Pre approval of new registrars only gets you so far. I've been a spam hunter at a couple sites. Currently at a Debian site.

We actually use Google Ad Services. Not sure how that is "sketchy".
