wtf. sometimes I hate cops.

so I'm driving to work today, like usual. stop at a red light at a fairly busy intersection. it's a 4-lane one-way street... I'm in the left-most lane (since I would have needed to make a left turn two blocks up) wait for the light to turn green, and once it does, I hit the gas to proceed through the intersection.

and then halfway through the intersection, *bam* a ****ing cop car running the red light with no sirens on(!) hits me :|

what the hell. I get it, you're a cop, but if you're going to run a red light at a super busy intersection, turn the goddamned sirens on. I had my windows open, so there's no way I'd have missed it if they were on.

That happened to me once on a bike. When I complianed that it was a hit and run, etc, I was told that cop's aren't required to lights&sirens when they break traffic laws because they may need to remain incognito for whatever their mission is 😕

the cop car doesn't give anything away? reverse psychology or something?

Sometimes they can be real cool though.

I should probably have a record for more than a few things because a cop was nice, same with my friends.

Yea, that's true too. There are a lot of ahole cops, but there are a bunch of good ones too.
In my town, there are like atleast about 8 cops I know that I went to highschool with.

You hate cops sometimes? I hate them all the time. Many of them are dumbass college or highschool dropouts. No offense to the cops that actually do a good job and know what they are doing.

Actually, the requirements are a bit more stringent than that...

boy you are a idiot.

That could have been a cop responding to a call without lights and sirens. Which they are sometimes instructed to do so as not to tip off the bad guys.

Your original statement probably should have been something along the lines of, "I hate poor decisions that effect me negatively." I believe this captures the sentiment more accurately.

If you think for a single second that the officer that crashed into you was happy about, you are wrong. The fact of the matter is that the poor decision to proceed through an intersection when it obviously wasn't safe means someone in need of an emergency response (assuming it was warranted) did not get it. I have no doubt that the officer involved will suffer the appropriate consequences because the scrutiny law enforcement agencies subject their own to is intense. Officers are indeed held to a higher standard and level of accountability, not by just the publice, but by their own command staff.

Officers are people too. They are prone to making the same mistakes and having errors in judgement...it's just that when it happens EVERYONE knows about it and usually the ramifications are much more severe.

Almost the same thing happened to me, luckily I did not get hit...
Reflexively, I honked 🙂
That's when they turned on their siren but thank god they did not did not come after me...

So where do you live? I'm sure it'll make the 6 o'clock news.
Also, most police are suspended with pay until the matter has gone through an investigation.

I hate ignorance and the stupidity that enables the uninformed to make such ridiculous statements.

There are LOTS of people in the law enforcement community that do good work...work that saves people's lives and makes a difference. If you feel that you are qualified to do a better job, then I encourage you to make the sacrifice to get paid little to be exposed to so much risk.

/signed.

On the OP, I almost got hit by a cop last night, with a very similar situation. 4-lane (two each direction) street, I'm in the center lane, blinker on to turn left, slowing down, starting to turn left and I check the rear view at the last second. I see a cop coming up on me VERY fast, probably doing 60 in a 30 mph city street, no lights, no siren. I hesitate turning because it looks like he might pass on my left, which sure enough he does. If I hadn't seen him, he'd have plowed me as I turned left.

Cops are the worst drivers on the road. This shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone that has been driving for a bit...
