A huge national debt plus big budget deficit proves:

A) The government is under-taxing us.
B) The government is over-spending.
C) Both.
D) Screw dat, more bling for me.

The government isn't undertaxing us. It is simply overspending.

C. is the obvious answer, at least if we compare our situation to the rest of the first world- and we do want to be part of the first world, right?

That won't happen with a tax, income, debt and wealth distribution picture along the lines of the third world, which is where the current leadership is taking us...

I'll take the opposite pov from Charrison- when the govt develops an honest surplus, we'll be able to justify tax reductions- we haven't had real tax cuts, anyway, just tax deferments...

However, you forget the more we send to DC, the more that the folks in DC spend.

The last time our debt actually contract was over 40 years ago.. and that for one year. Both parties have money problems.

Is this for real?
It is like deferring a loan payment. You still have to pay it just you have to pay it later.noone is saving any money the interest is piling up though.

Yep. What will happen is the interest on the national debt will consume more of the budget. Right now interest on the national debt consumes about 12% of the national budget, after these huge deficits who knows, it could reach 13-14% of the budget. When it hits 20%+ of the budget people may start to understand the gravity of the situation.

Sort of, Maybe- the debt has exploded under the last three Republican administrations, however. And while that's happening, they're actually cutting domestic programs to finance huge military expenditures and tax cuts mostly for the wealthy. Slipping the govt into a silk-lined straightjacket is part of their longterm strategy, anyway...

Here, you may not like the source or their spin, but the numbers are usually impeccable-

There was only one president in history who paid off the national debt. It was Andrew Jackson about 150 years ago.

You know what I'd like to see?

Citizens paying a little more in taxes.

Big Tax Breaks for SMALL BUSINESS

HUGE TAXES for Corporations

I get sick and tired of corporations screwing everyone. If you have a good and honest huge corporation (haha right no such thing)

Jobs will transfer from large to small companies. Jobs will stay here. We need to bring manufacturing back to the US!

I can dream can't I?

But it was only $20...hence the homage

Lower taxes on businesses and watch them .... outsource like there is no tomorrow. Look. I am not for excessive taxes on businesses but shouldn't we discourage any tax incentives for businesses to move jobs overseas or incorporate in some tax shelter off-shore?

Um, we could lower taxes for corporations and they'd still leave the country for as long as theres cheap labor/manufacturing elsewhere

Not really. There are costs associated with moving labor to other parts of the world. We need to work with our companies, not against them.
