wtf? Priceline is actually more expensive than the motel's actual rate?

Is this unusual that Priceline is actually more expensive?

We're heading to Tennessee in a couple of weeks for a goat show.

Actually, it works out to Priceline being 17.6% more expensive!

Oh, and if anyone's in the Nashville/Lebanon area & wants to say hi, we'll be at the "James E Ward Agricultural Center, Baddour Parkway, Lebanon, Tenn" on April 4.

The way to get priceline to be cheaper than anything else is to use the "name your own price" feature. If you're not doing that, then the main priceline site is the same as any other travel comparison website (orbitz, expedia, etc.), where they charge you retail rate, plus a commission.

Don't let them get your goat.

I've only used those services once, when I was preparing to move from Dallas to KC, and it seemed to be decent, tho I don't remember which one i used.

WTH is a "goat show"?

well you see, when a woman (or a man) and a goat love each other, and are exhibitionists...

Don't go any farther than that, or I will have to lock this thread after I stop laughing.

We found better prices by going directly through the hotel website for our vacation. It wasn't significantly harder either. Just type "[insert city here] hotel" in google and you get a map and list of hotels. Then just go to the websites/start calling for vacancies. If you want to stay at a casino or something it works with "[insert city here] casino" too. I figured it was priceline/travelocity/expedia/etc's fee we were seeing as the difference.

I'd be curious if there's a point where people assume using a travel service like that would be cheaper (and might still be after including multiple components) so they don't even bother to check it themselves? Really, I guess they're actually just convenience services, so it doesn't surprise me that they're more expensive. That and leveraging multiple expenditures I'm sure plays a role in final costs for them too.
