3.3ghz XP? I've seen other 6800 users say the same thing. I don't know why it won't run the demos, maybe the 4 pipes and/or clockspeeds make a big difference for them? On the GT they run@20fps average, and turning on aa/af didn't effect frames rates negatively.

I had the same problem, my AGP aperature was set to 64MB in bios...upped it to 256MB and the demos work OK now.

It is a problem with the demos, your card is fine. I have read many complaints about this but I don't know the solution.

Oops. wishful thinking -- 2.3Ghz (2500+ overclocked).

Ah, ok, I will check that when I get home tonight. Thanks.

Where can you get DX 9.0c? I think I only have 9.0b (came with far cry that I installed last night)?

Windows XP SP2 beta

Thank you rbV5.... do you have to be a beta tester? Ughh, beta software from Microsoft.... sounds kinda scary to me :p I've had quite a few MS crashes over the years on their alpha stuff... LOL

Any links for this beta?

Just wanted to chime in and say that I can't get them to run either. I'm sure my arpetture (sp?) is at 64 so I'll try that when I get home. I'm enjoying the beach, though so it won't be until tomorrow.

Here man just go to v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com .

There you get windows update version 5. Click on the advanced update and SP2 will be right there. Or just head over to Neowin.net and get the latest version.

Tried the AGP aperature. Works great now. Thanks everyone.
who wants to play a demo anyway?

jus enjoy games instead
Got to get a little more out of $280 than just Far Cry, Doom 3, and HL2.

I don't see where DX9c is required to run the demos, so you wouldn't need to be a beta tester.

Yup he's right, you don't need DX9.0c for the demos.

Glad to see your problems solved by a simple solution. We should have a FAQ or some kind of a guide on various graphics cards on this forum.

Generally you double whatever the memory on your graphics card is.

Unless of course its more than half of your total system memory.

I'd say your CPU and GT have something to do with that...DX9.0c isn't required if thats what you're asking:)

It's however much ram onbaord the video card you have. Since it's a GT, that would be 256. It also depends on your motherboards bios to select the amount.

Well 9.0C isn't going to do anything. All it does is give support to SM3.0. As none of the benchmarks currently support 3.0 at all its not going to do anything.

While what Acanthus said is right, this will not be a standard case for every game.
It would be better to set the AGP aperture size to 256mb for games like Far Cry, and 512mb for games like Doom3. For the first I think more available system ram would be better, for the second more ram should be addressed to the gpu due to uncompressed textures.

It is usually set to half your system RAM. Though i have heard both. There is no need to change it unless you know that youve ran oout of texture memory on your video card. The only reason for a card to use some of this would be at like 16x12 full AA and AF in a game like far cry doomIII, yah know the bunch. Then a 256meg card will come inhandy.
