WTF; pictures at a funeral?

I was actually going to post about this today. My aunt died over the weekend, and my mother took pics at her funeral (my mother's sister). My mother has done this at a couple of other funerals for her siblings. I think it's beyond weird...but don't say anything to my mother. She then prints up the photos...what she does with them after that, i have no idea. I came to the house one day after my uncle died a few months ago to find a few pics scattered around the house "drying" as they had just been printed.

I just don't get it.

Edit: the only pics with the deceased in them are pics of the deceased themselves. Not people standing next to or posing with the deceased.

I was at a public memorial service a couple of years ago (no body in attendance, but lots of family there) and there were a number of folks holding camera phones above their heads shooting video and stills throughout the service. At the time I was in awe of how decorum had vanished from the social landscape. I changed my mind after being able to watch a memorial service that I wasn't able to attend in person on youtube. While it seems super tacky, it can be a benefit to folks who can't make the service in person.
