Iw as tryin to update my definitions today and I got a strange error message. Basically they won't update on ANY of my computers here so I'm thinking Symantec screwed up on their end with the update.

Are any of you able to update?

you can download their "intelligent updater" exe directly from their homepage. It will install the defs. 2k2 has issues if one of the patches for the LiveUpdate itself doesn't go perfectly. Once you do the int upd, it should be golden.

I updated earlier today ( I installed it yesterday).

Turns out that I had got a Beta copy from Symantec (My brother knows someone at symantec) and that wouldnt update other than the virus def's which was fine for my usage (only one machine used NAV) but then I found I couldnt update speedisk. So I asked him about it and he said he gave us a beta copy to test out but he forgot to mention it to my brother. So I went out and bought an OEM System Works Pro2002 and it works fine.

check out the dslreports security forum. a fix is mentioned that requires deleting a file (i think it's one of the update files)

link to the dsl reports thread of files to delete

I was getting the same errors, but my wife was able to update without incident.

I went to Norton's site and found the following...

»service2.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedte..[?]

Basically, the article explains that one of the reasons for the "6002" error is that if you have corrupted DL'd zip files, it won't work properly. How they got corrupted, I don't know - but when I deleted the files in the directory as suggested by the article, I was then able to perform a successful Live Update.

Interestingly, before I deleted the files in the
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads directory, there were four files...

liveupt.sig
liveupdt.grd
livetr.zip
autoupdt.trg

After running LU, there is now only one file...

livetr.zip

I hope this helps.

Ok I've been doin that b4 after lookin at Symantecs site but that didnt work. I also tried manually unzipping the zip file downloaded with WinRar and it told me it was corrupt so I knew it wasn't my problem.

Solution was to also CLEAR BROWSER CACHE!!! That does it works great now.

By the way the directory in win98 is c:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Liveupdate\Download.

Thanks
