WTF my watch just died! Edit: It's alive!!

I have an old Timex Ironman Triathlon. I was just pushing the mode button to see if I had left the stopwatch running, when it beeped and the display died.

I guess I'll have to unscrew the back tomorrow.

Edit: I tried pushing all three side buttons at once. It beeped and then started up! Everything is reset like I had replaced the battery, but that won't be hard to program.

Wow. I still have a 10+ year old Casio which still works on the original battery....gotta love the engineering of those watches though....or I guess the battery life

Yeah, I have a Casio as a backup. Mine is actually about 10 years old too. I think I got it in 3rd grade, and I don't recall ever replacing the battery. I guess I'll be wearing it tomorrow.

Anyone ever have their watch die like mine?

i had a timex for many years and it only needed 2 battery changes in 7 years. then a year ago the battery died again so i decided perhaps it was time to find a new one. i didn't wear a watch for about a year. i bought a cheapy 10 dollar one 2 weeks ago and i'm not sure why...it's not as if i needed a watch specifically...but i just had to have it.

Perhaps the battery just got worn out possibly? Pressing the button may have used it up (doubtful). Never had it die like that though

I'm going on my 7th year with my casio watch...I've replaces the strap on it twice for ~$3 each time, but other than that, great watch, no battery problems yet either

the strap on my casio somehow snapped while sitting on my desk in the middle of the night. i used that whenever my analog would die

I'm hoping it's the battery. Maybe pressing the button dropped the voltage low enough that the display stopped.

Dead serious, I hadn't looked at it for a while and it stopped at 9:17.

I had my expensive Raymond Weil watch rust and die on me. I went to the pool with it on and afterwards it started fogging and rusting then it completely stopped. When I took it to the repair store, they told me I was stupid for wearing a watch in a pool but if the watch says its water resistant to 5 ATMs, shouldn't it be able to handle less than 6 feet of water?

My watches stops all the time. I just wind them up again and away we go.

Water Resistant is not waterproof though yours should not have leaked in the pool unless old and with dried out seals or improperly installed gaskets. Ever get it serviced???

If less that 5 years old, Id contact the manufacturer. Good name brand.

I never buy a watch that doesnt state X number of meters.

My Breitling, Luminox and 2 Citizen dive watches all state 200 M (Like Id ever need that). Even my very old Casio says 100M.

That's the thing, I never had it serviced and it only has a 1 year warranty. Wouldn't you expect an expensive watch to have more than a year warranty? It cost me about $150 to have it repaired.

For $150 I personally would have thrown it away no matter the cost but thats just me.

Come to think of it just service on a Rolex is well over $100 so maybe not too much of a rip off depending upon how much your RW was new and what they replaced. Batt movements are quite cheap and a good wind up movement can be had quite reasonably also.

Was it a wind up or battery type? How old? Rubber gaskets dry and crack.

I agree an expensive watch should have more than a year but then again they think if you can afford an expensive watch you shouldnt care.
