Not sure what the 6 stands for but....

Austenitic Stainless Steel
Non-magnetic stainless steels that contain nickel and chromium sufficient to develop and retain the austenitic phase at room temperature. Austenitic stainless steels are the most widely used category of stainless steel.

If you brush stainless with a carbon steel brush or wire wheel or steel wool the stainless will get embedded with the carbon steel and then rust if it gets wet. To decontaminate the surface you normally passivate it, which is basically putting it in a very strong nitric acid solution which strips away the impurities and the oxide layer. Then you let set for a couple of days for the oxide layer to reform. Nornally stainless does not rust unless it is contaminated or in an oxygen free environment (in which case you get no protective oxide layer).

i treat my blade with care. i cut only boxes and papers with it....nothing else

i contacted spyderco but they said that no one can get back to me until next monday.
