This sucks cause I think early sdtepping cpus like mine didn't like high fsb...I want to clock something like 13x266 for 3.46ghz but it wont let me go past 10...It treats my cpu like an E6700...

I have updated to bios 1004 which came out 1/22/07...It still say max 10x min 6x in the bios....

Stupid Asus!!!!

New cooler on my QX6700 and I am at 3.33ghz with a max temp of 50c (core temp/TAT) instead of the 70-72c I used to see...

Thanks for the headsup on the new BIOS - stupid Asus indeed - the speed of their website and downloads from a fairly large company is just retarded - its almost as if they do not want you to download from their wrbsite (even their FTP is shite).
Man I thought I was a collector of processors and parts but there is always going to be one out there thats better or worse than me - 3 of the best processors out ther in your collection thats something - only have one C2D to my name (a pricy addition for me) and a heck of a lot of Optys, A64s, NWoods, AXPs etc aroound me at present - enuff to start a classroom.

Duvie,

Asus is weird indeed. I just built a computer for my girlfriend, using the components I had laying around here from my old system.
The motherboard is ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe (nForce4 Intel). The processor is an X6800 ES, Team Group DDR2 800 4-4-4-10 memory.
Everything is locked in BIOS. I can't touch the FSB (1066), memory frequency (800) or CPU multiplier (11).
As nF4 doesnt overclock the FSB, all I wanted was to get the memory to 1066 at 5-5-5-15 and raise the CPU multiplier to 12-13.

What's your stepping? My Qx6700 is Stepping 5 Rev B1 and I'm eagerly waiting for EVGA/Nvidia to come up with a solution so I can overclock the FSB. Will it support at least 333FSB? Now I can't pass 300FSB, that's a motherboard issue.

Thanks

At the moment, only one board allows for high fsb overclocking and that's the P5B deluxe... i haven't seen any eVGA boards go above 330-340

You can kind of understand it thought, There are what, 2 chips that have unlocked multipliers (as far as I know), and the majority of people that overclock with them are using locked multiplier chips.

It does suck though, you would think a company that repeatedly boasts its overclocking capabilities would provided you with the ability to, well, overclock in every sense of the word.

People...

This is the 965p...I have read reviews where the people have set the multiplier to 11x and 12x on the QX6700...It should and has on other boards been unlocked it is just my board...

This is not an Nvidia chipset...

That is weird Duvie. I was also under the impression that the P5B was unlocked for Extreme chips.

By the way, what new cooler are you using for such nice temps? Also, TAT only loads up 2 cores from what I've been reading over at XS.

There are some boards that just don't support multiplier overclocking with the QX6700 yet. One example is mine (Asus P5W DH Deluxe) and it is rumored to have better support in an upcoming bios.

hey terentenet, we have the same chip! I have the exact same cpu as you, its an ES week 25. I cannot overclock the fsb at all (well it tops out a bit above 300 so its not even worth touching it). Im running 266x12 for 3.2ghz, but I would much rather run 400x8 for example. It would give me better bandwith, and it would run 1:1 with my RAM. oh well, we shouldn't complain :D

This is actually duvie speaking!!! i am at Marks...

The problem is people I read a review where the QX6700 was running 11x multi on the Asus P5B-deluxe...How did he do it? It is almostlike the board sees it as a E6700...It never calls it a quad anywhere when booting up...

can others confirm this as well?

JAG87, this is not a CPU issue we have. It's motherboard related. Check the threads over at EVGA, here: Link
Hopefully they will come up with a BIOS to fix that. Many sustain it's going to be a board revision. Only time will tell.

Thanks

I have tried many bioses and still no go....

The main question is how did the multiplier work for some when they did reviews with ES chips and not now?

I will be calling those pricks at Asus monday and they better have a good answer.

The Asus mobo is not ver condusive to me running high fsb since my water cooler radiator/fan blocks the radiator to the NB heastsink system. I want to keep fsb low and chipset voltage low...

I can boot in bios as high as 3.7ghz, into windows as high as 3.6ghz (haven't been ale to get 100% stable)...3.5ghz appears to be solid and will be going into tweak pahse with ram speed and timings.

I think there is more left in it...If I had acces to unlocked multis I would try 13x266&275 as well as 11x300-333...both ranges that worked fine on my DS3...can possibly get me stable at 3.6ghz and try for 3.66ghz

Well it sounds like even with the locked multi, you're having very good success with your P5B-D ;)

With my E6300, i can't even boot at 3500 MHz, so it appears you have one beast of a Q6700 :D

I just talked to the morons at Asus....

They said this board does not officially support the QX6700 chip....just the Q6600...

I was like WTF!!! How do you officially support the chip that came later? He had no answer...

He also had no answer as to why it doesn't read my ES and unlock all mutlis...

He also had no answer as why some review sites using QX6700ES chips were able to have unlocked multis....

He told me my the only fix was to wait until they say it supports it then RMA my board so they can solder on a new chip...I was like WTF??? Why cannot this be a simple cpuid flash to the mobo. He said it has to support it (the basic family of processors) first. I said thne how the heck did all those sckt 939 mobo released 1 year plus before X2s and dual core opterons were released only require a flash to work. he had no answer to that one.

So basically no support....

ROFL!

I am not surprised.
I've disliked Asus for various reasons for a while now, but when they keep making damn decent motherboards, it's hard to ignore them entirely...

/has Asus mainboards in both systems...
