Did you read that license agreement? Microsoft provides implementations of protocol standards, and has written up a license agreement for vendors to implement both the protocol implementations and the technical documentation that accompanies them. That seems reasonable to me, but perhaps I'm missing something in the literature.

I didn't read that whole thing in the 1st link, just saying m$ never lets us down. :D

Nope, I don't speak lawyerish, so I wouldn't understand it anyway, I based my post on the info in the EWeek article, as well as Microsofts past endeavors.

So, you're really just licensing Microsofts documentation and the right to use their protocol API's?

Sounds like anti-Microsoft FUD to me.. I'm sure we'll see a reasonable explanation (in non-lawyerese) soon.

That said, IF MS is indeed claiming ownership of these protocols, it is certainly a futile endeavor that will fail. It would be downright stupid of them to do this.
