A suburban Jupiter man is facing firearm charges after he allegedly shot and killed his two dogs and buried them in the back yard last week.

Brett Bull, 33, was charged Sunday with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after he killed the dogs with a 22-caliber rifle on Jan. 12, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said. According to a sheriff's news release, Bull and a woman were sitting out on the patio drinking and talking at his residence in the 9300 block of Whippoorwill Trail. The woman started talking about his dogs and how sweet they were, the release stated.

Bull got up and went into the house. When he returned, he told the woman that he shot the dogs. The woman found the dogs lying next to each other on the side of the house. She started crying and hugging the dogs, the release stated.

Covered in blood, the woman was whisked away by Bull's mother and told not to say anything about what happened. Later on that day, the woman saw Bull and mother digging a hole with the dead dogs nearby, the release stated.

Palm Beach County SWAT members and detectives found several firearms, including the rifle used to kill the dogs was, at the residence when law enforcement returned Sunday with a search warrant. Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control officers recovered the dogs from a shallow grave.

Preliminary results from a necropsy did not reveal any trauma to the dogs other than a single gunshot wound to the head. Further charges against Bull are pending.

They were probably pit bulls. Obviously they don't want to mention the type of dog if it isn't a negative story about them. You could never have sweet pit bulls.

Yeah they were just dogs, not like they were living creatures or anything that could bleed and feel pain and terror. 🙄

and not to mention he was a convicted felon not permitted to have guns to begin with nor the fact that discharging a firearm where he was was not only idiotic, but illegal.

They were probably pit bulls.

They are now. He buried them in one.

This story, as told, is so surpassingly odd and pointlessly tragic that I can't even begin to take it as seriously as I probably should. 🙁

I hope people understand your sarcasm. I agree with you. Pit bulls get a bad reputation for no good reason. Without a doubt, the sweetest, most affectionate dogs I know happen to be pit bulls.

it really pisses me off too because they are one of the very first breeds of American dogs. They were family dogs, treasured members who traveled across the plains with the wagon trains. Why must we seriously distort history so fucking much? Not to mention I find it funny that someone would scream racist from the top of their lungs if they heard you say "Hispanics are more violent and aggressive than other races, it's just genetics", yet to spit non-sense about a dog is ok? I guess some people don't realize they are all called dogs because they're the same fucking species. From the smallest teacup puddle to the largest irish wolfhound.

Growing up in the 80's it was the Rotties, Shepherds and Dobermans that everyone cried out to ban.

Dog Fighting has made the Pit Bull a target. Too many fools want that baddest ass dog in the neighbor that is really a meanance. One day 'cause they got high, they forget to lock their gate and WhiteBoyEater gets out and mauls a bus stop.

I am usually at dog park daily. My cattle dog has bull terrier in his lineage and probably one of the crowd favorites there.

The two times he has been attacked requiring surgery has been by a Whippet and a Golden Retriever. He plays with Pit Bulls and Mastiffs usually.

The newspaper more than likely left out the breed because the types of dogs really have no bearing. If they were Pit Bulls, people would lose track (like they have here) and say "Good Job!", missing the fact that this guy lives in their neighborhood and is still breaking major laws.

The fact it doesnt say pitbulls indicates they were not.

Thres very little sensationalism in saying the dogs were shepherds or some other breed.

What do you mean? I had a huge question mark hanging over my head after reading the story because it doesn't mention the breed. These days, most dog stories seem to be fixated on the breeds involved. In this one, it seemed as if the author tried to suppress that information, possibly to emphasize that the dogs were affectionate. They could be pit bulls, and perhaps the author thought people would doubt the story if that was mentioned.

LOL - Other breads aren't even in the same ballpark as pit bulls.

According to this report, pit bulls account for the VAST majority of dog attacks.
Hell, pit bills and rottweilers account for ~75% of dog attacks.

again, this is simply b/c pitbulls are far more popular these days.

if you look at the data by decade, the VAST majority of violent attacks were from Rotties, then German Shephards, Dobermans, whatever. That table doesn't show this, b/c it simply totals the numbers over 20 years. It's Stats failure, 101.

ignorance of science knows no bounds when it comes to the media and reactionary idiots.

hey, let's ban guns while we're at it, right? You can't possibly think that banning pit bulls solves anything, if banning guns solves nothing.
