I think it pulled all the way back to stab him. Besides it didn't need much effort anyway, IT WAS FREAKIN HUGE! Elijah Wood should of died from the force of the blow. If not from one of his ribs snapping and puncturing some of his organs and then him bleeding to death or his internal organs being turned to pulp.

I doubt anyone move much with a broken rib.

If they were smart they would of just took a ride on that big eagle to an area close to the destination like the wizard guy did earlier in the movie.

<< Halfway through the movie Elijah Wood's character gets stabbed (when he was trapped in a corner) by an ogre that was easily 10 times his size. Elijah Wood is saved by his armor from the pierce and walks away unharmed a minute after they kill the beast. The thing that ruined the movie was that the force from the stabbing alone would have crushed his rib cage. >>

Like previous posters have said - something they didn't really get into in the movie, but mithril was a special metal that armor & weapons was made out of by the dwarves. Not only was it exceptionally strong & light, some armour had magical properties as well. For example, Aragorn's broken sword "Narsil" was a magical blade, as well as Frodo's "Sting" (which glowed when orcs were near), and of course Gandalf's "Glamdring". No reason why the armour Frodo was wearing couldn't have been magical as well - and thus protected him. Of course that's hard to depict in a movie...

And you're an authority on Hobbit biology? Maybe they don't have rib cages?!? Hehe :p
