Working for comcast, let me help you figure atleast something out:
If you haven't already checked, the basic http://192.168.100.1 for your modem will give a bit of diagnostics (given the model of the modem of course, some lacking information) and you should be able to get a bit of information on a problem (if any or unless is stemming from elsewhere) with your signal.
Check that out, and report back with a few numbers on there, if they are there. Downstream numbers: SNR, 'Power Level'. Upstream Numbers: 'Power Level'
