Meth, the common way people do it, typically crank, is all sorts of fucked up.

If it's cleaned, and done in low amounts, on a semi-irregular basis (versus every day a couple of times), it wouldn't be terrible.
Technically, you can get meth on prescription. It's a salt (HCl or whatever) in pill form, but it's out there, just like regular ol' speed is out there available for prescription (amphetamine). Cooking it with who knows what, that's a little different, as is smoking the shit... but it's an effective control for some extreme ADD-types.

P.S. Never tried methamphetamine, but have tried amphetamine by prescription.
