Wharton Executive MBA program catalog, see pg. 24

Q: What is the cost of attending?

A: The tuition and fees (including books, housing, and meals) for the WEMBA East program in 1999-2000 was $49,200 for the first year. This may be subject to change in future years.

Meals and housing? Oh wow.... regularly scheduled Friday evening class meetings requires soooooooooooo much food and housing. And all this from a taxpayer supported school. As a Libertarian, i'm already pissed that my tax dollars are going to support these clowns, and that they have the balls to charge 50 grand a year is astonishing.

I'm right next to UPenn (It's 3 blocks away), I'm at Drexel University. We're $31,000 a year for undergrads. THANK GOD FOR FINANCIAL AID :D:D

presigious schools demand alot of cash.

Look at the epitome of libertarian schools, Hillsdale. They charge $20,000 for a good(not great) education.

Two year MBA programs aren't cheap, especially from decent schools. It's a price you pay for those three little letters.

It's an executive MBA meaning the student's employer usually pays for it. But I'm sure it is no more expensive than a regular MBA.

Ehhhh.....
U Penn is NOT a public school. I'm not sure what auspices you consider it to be "taxpayer supported." I'm sure they get some government funding here and there, but they are not publicly funded the way a state college like PSU or YCP is funded.

Additionally, U Penn is Ivy League--read: EXPENSIVE. Choosing an Ivy over a state school is like choosing a Corolla over a Prism. At the end of the day you have the same car, but if you bought a Corolla, you paid a premium for the good name of Toyota instead of Chevy/Geo.

Further to that, WHARTON is one of the most prestigious business schools in the country. This place wasn't meant to be cheap. Maybe you should look to taking a class at PSU. You'll get a great education (and fairly prestigious, too) for a fraction of the price.

Professional schools are expensive. You should weigh the cost of attending the program with its return of investment--graduate's placement level and average salary. UPenn's exec MBA grads would make close to $100k/yr after graduation.

Alright, here's what you do, you go to bannerweb and look up the figures for all your financial years. This year this is what my breakdown looks like straight from banner:

Component Description Amount
Books and Supplies $620.00
Fees $1,150.00
Housing $5,025.00
Meals $3,295.00
Miscellaneous $1,030.00
Transportation $927.00
Tuition $16,213.00
Total: $28,260.00

Now next year it will be raised, as it has been each year I've been here, which will be 30,500 or so. It was in the DU Triangle recently. That's where the hell I got my information from, thank you very much.

Now, you clearly could interpret tuition as being only 16,213 for the classes only, but that's not how Drexel works. You get charged for the Transportation, Books and Supplies, Fees and Miscellaneous. The only optional charges are meals (which I stopped receiving) and I will soon be off-campus so no more on campus housing soon, hopefully.

University and College prices are pretty high. I am going to rack up a fed loan for my J.D. program next year. I just graduated and got my B.A. which cost me $105,000.
