WTF? Just updated some apps and BAM, removed from homescreen

Is this happening to others? I just ran a daily google play checking for any apps that had updates and there were a few. So, I hit update all and then I get messages that it was removed from the homescreen. And lo and behold, they were. The apps are still installed but the shortcuts on the homescreen got removed. Common? Ive been an android user since G1 and this has never happened. Stock, JB, using Nova Launcher.

It happens all the time to me. Especially annoying when I have folders for all my apps. I know one is missing but cannot remember which.

Never seen that. I wonder if maybe sometimes apps update their icons and need to remove the old from the desktop first?

I think it happens time to time. I believe it depends on HOW the app was changed. I'm not as familiar with app development, but I suppose certain changes a developer makes can trigger that, but for the most part I don't see this often.

I think it has to do with major changes like an overhaul of the app.

I think it happened to me once or twice, too. However, what I dislike the most is apps leaving traces after uninstallation. Not just icons but folders and some other suspicious or useless files. Just as on desktops.
