Had to take care of some stuff in the backyard, so I went out there, took off my jacket and laid it on a lawn chair. After finishing, I grabbed my jacket and felt a sharp pain on my hand as I was putting it through the sleeve. Snapped my hand back and out flew this huge black insect that looked like a bumble bee, but it was all black, no trace of yellow whatsoever.

My entire hand is numb now, and I can't seem to find any trace of a stinger on it. There's also no signs of swelling.

Any ideas as to what it might have been?

Bald-faced hornet quite possibly.

They're big black bugs, and are pretty mean.
They don't leave a stinger behind either.

If it was a hornet, you'd know it.

A carpenter bee isn't all black and wouldn't cause your hand to swell.

eh? The ones I have are all black. Borer Bees are what we called them because they bore into wood and live there?

Yeah, those are the ones I'm thinking of. But the ones I've seen are yellow/black and never bite/sting.

Congrats... you have just been infected with over 100 eggs.

In about a month expect some larvae to crawl out of your penis as they eat whatever soft flesh they can find.

Male Carpenter Bees don't sting, females do. Apparently you have to really piss one off to get one to sting you though. I've never been stung by one and I've done tons of yard work around them, they even had a nest in our fence.

I guess it resting inside a sleeve while I was trying to put my hand through would qualify as really pissing it off

doesn't look like it does anything special / poisonous; guess i'll treat it like any other bee sting.

heh, OP put his hand through the sleeve and got stung. That will piss off any insect - you know, basically crushing them. ;)
