WTF? Joe Johnson to the Hawks

Joe didn't want to be 3rd option on the team anyway.

edit: although, I'd rather be 5th option on the Suns than 1st on the Hawks.

The suns couldn't do anything. The offered to match the Hawks' offer but Johnson just got tired of playing third fiddle to nash and amare. He wanted out. As for Q, he was too expensive for what he was worth, in case you missed his choke job in the playoffs.

It's a sign and trade.... they get 2 draft picks plus an under rated player back.

Yes, Phoenix has made a few questionable moves this offseason... mostly I think because their owner will not let the team hit the luxury tax threshold and they want to be sure they have the $$$ for Amare.

Boris Diaw is horrible.

Well considering the Hawks have a lot of cap room and a pretty young core of players, I think they've got a chance to improve greatly in the next 2-3 seasons. They've got a ton of good F/G swingmen and if they could pick up a big man they could really contend in the East IMO:

Marvin Williams
Josh Childress
Josh Smith
Al Harrington
Salim Stoudamire
Joe Johnson

...not a bad squad. A little undersized, but not bad at all...

too many SF's on the hawks. I think the Suns did a good job and didn't give joe johnson a max contract. I don't think he's worth max IMO.

WTF ?!?!?? 🙁 🙁 :| :|

i thought fine let Q go cause at least they would still have Johnson... man this sucks he was such a nice fit for that team... after they got kurt thomas they would be serious contenders now they will have a hole at SG thats way out of Diaw's league to fill...

Joe J. was only good cause he was wide open. He was wide open cause nash would drive the lane and amare got double teamed.
Stick anyone in the corner and they SHOULD be hittin those shots.

he's no max player. at least the suns are getting something in return.

Johnson's not really worth that much money. Plus if the Suns had matched, they probably wouldn't be able to give Amare the max extension he'll want/deserve. At least this way they get some picks. The hot rumor is they don't mind it as much because once the Mavs use the amnesty clause on Michael Finley, his good buddy Nash will be giving him a call to extoll the virtues of the Suns.

Replacing Johnson with a much much cheaper Finley (Mavs still have to pay him the 52 mil) while having money to sign Amare and picking up a few 1st rounders sounds like a decent deal.

If they don't get Finley and Johnson tears it up as the Hawks new PG, then it might not look as smart.

Agreed, but if they can get him for the veteran's minimum, he's still a pretty good option with his experience and leadership.

With all this NBA talk, I'm remembering reading on the Clippers extending Rebracca's contract. haha. And the Rockets signing The Stro' Show. 😱

but I digress. . .

its prolly more like 4th fiddle...after nash amare and marion

Hawks need a center... Eddie Curry, Tyson Chandler, Dalembert. Hawks can also use Al Harrington as trade bait to fill another need.

the latest rumor was that Al Harrington for Darko Milicic was discussed between the Hawks and Pistons.

interesting trade. Darko would get plenty of PT to prove himself on a bad team. the Hawks get a big 7 footer with potential. the Pistons get deeper at the 3 spot. however, i'm not sure Harrington would like coming off the bench as a backup.

the joe johnson trade is a shame. but this is what happens when your whole lineup is filled with stars. remember the mess that was the 2004 Lakers with Malone, O'Neal, Payton and Bryant? (and of course Fisher)

Yeah but the only thing about Darko is that no one has seen him play in game situations. He's played so few minutes it's hard to tell whether his (alleged) skills will translate into ability in games.

He may be great in practice and summer league, but could he start at 5 on an NBA team? I doubt it...huge risk for the Hawks IMO. Not that they have much to lose...
