I like the fact that they charge a buck less when I get it with just meat & cheese.

JJs>quiznos>subway

I don't really go to these types of places much though. Most people can make better tasting stuff in the same vein for cheaper.

I have no local sandwich shop.

That sucks. :p

Yeah, if there were I'd definitely give it a try. If there is one, I haven't seen it in ten years of working in this town.

they're decent sure, but nothing special. And well overpriced for their lack of specialness. Easily better than Quizno's, of course. But so is Subway. ...as is my sweaty sock.

Must I remind everyone for the 5,687,987,024 time that PotBelly is the greatest chain sandwich shop in the Universe?

Around here, Jimmy Johns only delivers by bike, maybe the same in your area?

I eat subs quite a bit, but still have not had Jimmy John's. I love the competition though, you can get $5 footlongs just about everywhere now.

This thread is evidence of one of the problems with sub shops (well the high number of franchises), they're inconsistent.

I have no local sandwich shop.

Lanskys looks good.

Lanksy's is an Italian place. Waaay too much onion in the meatball sub. Decent calzones, but some days you get a sprinkling of meat in them, others you can barely see the cheese around all the meat.

The sandwiches are $3.25 for me, just meat and cheese, seems pretty reasonable.
No PotBelly here.

Call again and if it happens ask for a manager.

But at 2.4mi/6min it's probably faster/cheaper to pick up.

nope, my wife asked the manager who happened to wait on her when she went to pick it up, and their delivery area extends 2 miles in all directions.

It was only the second time I've had JJ, and it's okay, nothing special.

I wouldn't have minded paying for delivery, as it's only 25 cents per item. I had just gotten home from 11 hours at the office, and my wife didn't feel like cooking, so we just wanted to have it delivered.

Potbelly isn't BAD... but they're still pretty "meh." I'd rather go to Subway because at least the cost is proportionate to the quantity and quality of the product, where as Potbelly always seems to cost more but give less with only a little better quality.

If you have them in the area, I suggest either Roly Poly (http://www.rolypoly.com/) or Penn Station (http://www.penn-station.com/). You'll pay more at both places, but it's worth it to have it done right.

Heh, back at UIUC, Jimmy John's was the local sandwich shop. Heck, Jimmy John Liataud lived down the street from a colleague of mine.

I consider Jimmy John's to be a little on the expensive side but for a chain restaurant they offer pretty decent subs. Subway subs are just pitiful half the time.

ask for less mayo.

bread isn't supposed to be that puffy sh!t that comes pre-sliced at the grocery store. jj's rolls are great and their wheat is phenomenal.

Jimmy Johns offers a small sub that consists of 99% bread and two or three slices of deli meat. It is like getting one of those gas station sub sandwiches.

what the hell jj's have you been to?

Jimmy Johns is okay every once in a while. I'll go to Subway first any day, though. You get more food for less money.
you can take your tasteless styrofoam veggies, worthless smashed bread, and a whole 4 slices of 'turkey' on a footlong and shove it

There is no way you could do that without buying enough to eat solely the same sandwich meal after meal.

you can get stuff with food stamps though. :)

All I know is a few pounds of meat and cheese is about $20-30 at the deli now.

Agreed. Simply because they try to be consistent across the entire chain, and have such wide distribution, it's impossible to make an outstanding sub at the chains. Good maybe, but not outstanding. However, a lot of the local places are able to make outstanding subs.

Find me one chain that makes a good steak sub from fresh meat, and good cuts at that; rather than frozen pre-cut/sliced crap.
