<< West Long Branch-AP, March 17, 2001)_Authorities say four Monmouth University freshmen were attacked by men wielding baseball bats and hammers at a dorm room last night.

Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Peter Warshaw says the incident occurred around 7-40 last night in the first floor room at Cedar Hall in the university's West Long Branch campus.
A motive for the assault isn't known.

Warshaw says other university students could have participated in the assault.

The four students were taken Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch and their injuries don't appear life-threatening. >>

Maybe they were mad that Monmouth lost to Duke in the first round and decided to take it out on the students of Monmouth.

Sad, I can remember being in the dorms at Montana State when a kid killed two or three other students with a shotgun. Because they had threatened his pickup!

He went into the wrong room and shot the wrong poeple also!!!

Well seeing that they were carrying hammers and bats, I'd say the motive was to hurt someone.
