Today at work we were talking about our tax refunds. It was mostly picking on one of the younger guys who doesn't have kids. One chick asked me how much I was getting and when I said almost $5k, she flipped. She went flush, and started stuttering "THAT'S NOT FAIR!"

Umm...ok. I asked her how much she was getting back and it was only like $2k. Ok...how much did you pay in? She said it was around $1500. So I pointed out that I paid in almost $7k. So yes, I am getting more back but I PAID $2k in taxes while she is getting paid $500. She still insisted that its not fair. Keep in mind...we have the same exact job. Her income potential is the exact same thing as mine.

This is seriously what is wrong with the country. No one wants to pay their own way. Everyone expects a damn handout. People get pissed when someone else has something go their way.

Its like everyone is devolving into 3 year olds.
 
I think some people just don't realize how taxes work. She probably barely understands the connection between the tax withholdings on her paycheck and what happens when you file.

I'd question what's wrong with both of you. 2K and 7K is way to much to loan the government interest free.

I'd say that it's ridiculous for anyone to be getting anything back with the financial shape the government is in.

Yeah the government can just keep the extra money they took from us because that makes perfect sense. Hell why have tax code at all, just let the government take whatever it is they feel like taking.

That said, I'm trying to figure out a balance so I can pretty much keep it at 0 next year.
 
My wife is a pharmacist and works along side techs that make less money per year than my wife pays in taxes. And there are similar arguments in her department too.

Suffice it to say, there is no mystery why they are 20, 30, 40+ years old and still only making $8-$10 an hour.

You're lucky they're not coming door to door taking your tv, jewelry and gold fillings. Do you know how much $14 trillion dollars is?!

NOT getting a refund when we're struggling with insolvency isn't some huge tragedy.
 
You know, you should probably file something with your government so that next time instead of them getting a free $5k loan you keep that money from day one.

Between Federal Income Taxes, State Income Taxes, Property and Sales Taxes, over Half my income goes to some bastard who didn't do the work for it.

If he shows up asking for more, he'll be lucky if I only sicc the dogs after him.

There is always the chance that lil rudeguy's mom will pull some bullshit. I do it this way just in case.

And be serious...if I had it in a savings account, that would have paid $100 in interest max. Its not that big of a deal.

Hmmm..I paid near 10K....I am only getting $500 back....

Anyways, why do people keep saying, "I'd rather not give the govt an interest free loan". I am mean really, who cares?
