this happens completely randomly...
a game will start, and my sound is really choppy...it's hard to explain. there is a lot of popping, and the radio communications are all jumbled and chopped up. usually retarting the game fixes is. what the hell is going on though? i have a santa cruz with the latest drivers, hardware acceleration on (it doesnt work without it on) and 44khz. (22khz doesnt make a difference either, i tested it.)
