Ok, I go to Valdosta State University in deep deep south georgia, this is my 5th year so I am well qualified to make a gross generalization. Every other day or no (no exaggeration) someone from some other religion with 10 followers comes by my door to tell me about Jesus. Now I'm a christian so I'm polite tell them I go to church etc whatever.

Today some A-hole comes by and asks me where I go to church and then invites me to HIS church. We talk for a minute and he asks me "If you die today which would it be heaven or hell?" I say heaven and he says really? I say yeah, no one's perfect, if you have to be perfect we're all going to hell. He says "Well I want you to have this" hands me a card and walks off. No biggie they always pass something out.

I come back inside and read it. It says:
TRY JESUS
If you don't like Him the DEVIL will always take you back.
Compliments of Calvary Tabernacle Holiness Church

My first thought was go out and find the a-hole and give him what for. I then realize that will do no good since he's obviously only a mindless sheep. Before I call and b!tch I want to know would you be as offended as I am? The implication is that the devil has me and if I don't go there I am going to hell.

Not only is this the crap that gives christians bad names it's rediculous to be handing out to anyone. "Hello, are you having a good day? You're going to hell if you don't worship with us, are you scared yet?" I have no problem with people inviting you to church and all that but this is plain rude. Way to go christians.

Easy fix:
Hear doorbell ring.
Look out window.
If you don't recognize the person, don't answer the door.

That doesn't bother me. They don't say "Hello heathen, read this or you're going to hell you devil worshiping inbreeder" which is basically what this card says. The mormons believe (I went to a mormon church for a few years) that not everyone believes here on earth and that's ok. There's a big difference in my eyes.

EDIT: ^^ YEah I was expecting UPS though. :-/

well, i would be pissed off simply because the guy is SO stupid...

if it were me i would have tried to have a convo with him about the HIS beliefs...oh much could be said...

i'm in the south too...other than a moron or two a year, i never get crap like that at my door. however, there is always some kind of protest or something going on on one of the major highways...the other day iwas driving home and there was a line of people..like a mile long with sings that read something like "abortion is murder" "jesus loves babies" BS like that... i was tempted to stand at the end of the line with an "abortions tickle" sign :D

i dont have a problem with these peoples beleifs, but they need to understand that all they are doing is hurting themselves...mindless, mindless sheep ...tis a sad world we live in...

Some people just don't get it. I wish they would take a page from what Jesus really did here on earth. So much for promoting peace, love, forgiveness, etc.

When religious folk come to try to got me to join their religion I will usually give them a minute of my time, but if they get pushy or start to annoy me, I ask them to leave. I refuse their handouts though, I don't want them to get any false hopes that they will somehow convert me to their cause. Any religion that believes in spirits, dieties, souls, and all that other extra terrestrial stuff is not for me. I'll stick with Atheism, as it is the only thing that makes sense (in my head).

In that case, the guy with the card was obviously "right" (in his opinion,) so what the fvck is the problem here? You scared of a little heat and eternal damnation?

The point is if you're going to invite people to church the idea is to be nice, you know...the whole christian thing? You can't go around telling people they are devil worshipers because they don't go your church.

BTW w'll have to kick a couple back in hell togeather. :p

I really don't have a problem with them coming by when they're nice. As far as me bitching on the boards let he that hath not sinned and all that jazz.

yeah, they don't exactly make you feel like it's your salvation they are so enthusiastic about. To me it just seems like they are trying to guilt me into coming to church, so I can be another one of the sheep to throw some money into their bucket.

I just let my dog bark at them until they go away. I don't even bother answering the door.

sounds like the jehovah witnesses...they believe they're the only ones going to heaven, for a total of 144,000. Yet there is currently over 2 million in the congregation. WTF?????

Not trying to be a dick about it but that sums up most religions to me.

It's much easier and much more satisfying in the short term to promote hate and intolerance.

I consider religion peddlers annoying, but there are lots of places in the Bible that say you should spread the faith. So even if they are annoying, I have more respect for them because they actually follow their religion instead of just picking the parts that suit them.

One time a few Mormons came to our house and tried to give us "The Book of Mormon." We simply told them that we weren't interested but they kept insisting that we take it. We again told them we had no use for it but they kept insisting. So they handed us the book and we took it.

They came back a few weeks later asking whether we enjoyed it or not. We told them we threw it away right after they gave it to us because we didn't want it. Needless to say, they were really upset. Perhaps I should've replied with "well, tough luck this time, God works in mysterious ways."
