WTF is with Creative's driver downloads?

WTF?!? I have to wait in a queue to download the drivers for a sound card I already paid them for?!?

This is complete crap. Creative now puts download requests into a queue, and appears to be limiting the download speeds (I'm stuck at sub-8 KB/s, while everything else is moving right along). I would just leave it go overnight, but I need another file from them, and thanks to that fscking queue system, I can't start it until this download is finished.

I just sent Creative an email expressing my displeasure (and letting them know that I won't purchase another Creative product). I paid over $100 for this sound card...I don't think fast, convenient driver downloads is too much to ask for at that price.

Is Creative the only one pulling this kind of crap, or are other companies doing the same? I seriously hope it doesn't become a trend...

But as long as the downloads are free, I don't think you have a right to complain.

Word. TBSC all the way. I had to do that queue stuff to download drivers for a girl I gave my Soundblaster to. It was incredibly lame, especially since it would freeze in the middle of the download.

yes creative is gay. They don't even put up audigy drivers on the web now, so if you lose the original cd that came with it (or it becomes scratch etc etc) you won't be able to use the card. Utter GAYNESS. This is the last creative product Ill ever buy. My next card is going to be the game theatre xp or the santa cruz.

And btw, nice car jello I drive a 97 myself se of course, 5 sp of course

As long as I can download drivers without an unreasonable hassle from every other hardware vendor out there, I'll continue to complain (and take my business elsewhere). It might not be so bad if the card I purchased actually shipped with XP drivers, but since this is the only way to get them, it's a royal PITA. I won't buy anything Creative again as long as they keep this crap up.

You are my hero! Instead of another hour and 20 minutes to finish downloading (and it was already 15% complete), it should take less than half an hour

I went through the same thing with an old ISA modem driver, and the file I eventually was able to download was corrupted. I have an Audigy MP3+, and I still have an old TNT2 Ultra, but I bought them before I found out about their lousy driver download policy. I will no longer purchase Creative products.

ever hear of a google search for alternate download sites? Many audio-themed sites have driver downloads available as well, and the Asian link in this thread is also a good resource....

What is so bad about waiting in a queue? What is the difference if the site was being hammered by other people dl' the file and you couldn't get to in temporarily?

Neo, the problem is that Creative never had problems to begin with. Under the old system, even on most driver releases, their FTP held up fine. All this is doing is allowing CL to get rid of a form of product support.

their site has sucked for years. they're smart enough to get their drivers included in windows, so most people don't complain. I have a sb live mp3+ from a few years back. If I ever have to buy another sound card, it won't be creative.
