Every single secertary that I support uses word perfect. Is this like a national thing for secertaries or something? It gets annoying having to support two platforms...

back then in college, on the unix mainframe, that's what everyone used. late 80's? early 90's? we used IRC on the mainframe too, pick up a chick in NY and had sex with her... true story.

If Word Perfect and Word shared document types I would use Word Perfect.

right, back then, word sucked, so everyone on campus used wordperfect. and we didn't have mp3s back then, only the elite few knew about it.

Wordperfect used to be the leading DOS wp program before Word for windows. So, I bet these people are older and never adapted.

workperfect was probably what they used after they stopped using typewriters. The change from typewriters was probably horrible for them, so they refuse to change again.

WordPerfect's "show codes" feature is the main reason. Plus learning a new mail merge is a drag.

When Windows first came out there wasn't much written for it. Microsoft wanted to bundle applications with Windows so folks could start using the OS right out of the box. Works was the result.

The real question IMHO is "why is Works still around"?

No, the real question is "Why doesn't microsoft office automatically convert works documents to word?"

I still use WordPerfect 5.1 for all of my serious writing. Nothing beats the purity of the interface. It's just you and the text, no menus or anything else.

you can also create and export documents to PDFs. I don't like PDFs but they seem to be useful for some people. Also, some people like the interface more than Word. I do agree that it tends to be people that used Perfect after switching from typewriters and do not want to switch again.

The same reason why I would rather use it than word. If only the document type was an open standard.
