There's a gas station on my way home that ups the prices during prime commute times nowadays. They used to run 5c-10c cheaper than nearby stations, but their normal price is the same as anyone else except for those few hours where they jack it up. On average, it's about $3.09 where I live for regular. It hovered around $2.90-$2.99 for a long time, then overnight went up 10c or more depending on the station.

On the flip side, because I started this new job, my commute times are a little bit less as I work 3rd shift, and I can't travel to my girlfriends as often (240 mile round trip plus $24 in tolls). It boils down to the fact I only fill up once a month. Plus, my girlfriend is moving in around June, so when that rolls around it'll cut out that long trip to go see her.

I moved from OK to CA in 2008 when prices were really high, it wasn't too bad.

I rented a penske 26' truck, and only filled up when I found cheaper spots. The larger tank was a godsend during the desert states where some places were over $5 a gallon. 😱

I have not heard Obama say one word about oil/Gas prices since he has taken office.

He has mentioned green jobs and cars though.

This is why we need to get off of the shit and develop something else (ala Brazil). Give the middle east a big ole middle finger...

I think that the high gas prices helped push us over the cliff into recession in 2007/2008 and I think it will stall or kill what ever recovery (if you can call it that) soon enough.

People should be paid that produce something of value. Not gambling.

News broke Wednesday that the 'average' in the US was $3.499. By overnight most stations had set their pricing to $3.499...

This is the major issue with gas/oils being traded as commodities. Any announcement that they will go up, usually triggers that.

It's one of the great lies.

R&D does not necessarily guarantee a product. it was to test the feasibility of an electric vehicle given the available technology. they found their answer.

2) both started as slow sellers, and it was only in 2000s that they REALLY became popular.
 
Its been hovering around 3.50 for quite a while here in CT, at least I can knock off about 25 cents a gallon w/ Costgo gas

Why is is that the first immediate effect that most Americans notice of world events is the price of fuel for their vehicles?

I would pay $5.00 per gallon of alternative if we made it here and could tell the middle east to stick their oil up their ass (and then charge them $100 per bushel of food stuffs).

Got ya beat. $3.89 here in SD. But since we've moved here in '09 I average 2640 miles a year on my dinky acura. 🙂

not sure if sarcasm meter broken but I'll bite.

Because these are the things that affects us as an individual. Wars are on such a large scale that you see them, but you really don't "feel" them since it doesn't affect us personally (unless of course, you've had a family member go off to war, but even then..)

Of course, heaven forbid, there was a war on our land, it would be felt.
