LOL we did do something about it... it was called the GM (Saturn) EV1... but like everyone else, GM sold their souls to the banks for easy money and to the same people who own big oil and the banks and destroyed their EV tech and all the EV1's. Guess whose laughing? The banks and big oil.

The EV-1 cost $80,000 to build.

You must be fucking joking. Or incredibly naive. I'd be surprised if that man can control his own bladder right now much less the price of oil. He is in control of nothing. Probably not even his own mind FFS.

You know nothing about oil speculation I take it....

so the technology to bring such a vehicle to market in the 90's simply wasn't feasible. why do you thing it's only be in the last decade that hybrids, let alone full-electrics, have become mainstream?

It must have had some reason to be feasible if GM went through all the trouble of research and development to create the EV1. Was it all just for the hell of it?

The reason is oil companies want more money. They want it, they get it. Nothing you can do.

I am seriously contemplating selling my car and picking up a civic. I drive 100 miles a day 4 days a week. You guys think its worth it?

Im looking at 21 mpg for my current car. Im filling up twice a week... It used to be cheap now its like 100 a week.

Prius available for public purchase 1997. Insight available for public purchase 1999. Don't speak of what you don't know.

So I just calculated everything out. I pay about 450 a month for gas.. driving a civic I would be paying 160 a month in gas. Only thing is that I would have to start making car payments so its the same shit.. gay

something about unrest in the middle east i think?

not sure, cuz it doesn't affect me

But, but, but oil prices just went down...

Yep, plus you have to carry comp & collision which is another addition if you don't currently have to. It's a no win situation.

Wait, wouldn't you pay closer to $250 in gas with a Civic?

I hate how the oil companies and gas station companies F over the consumers.

Think about it logically, the fuel sitting in the tanks under the gas stations was delivered weeks ago most likely, from stock that was refined months ago, from oil that was drilled perhaps 6mo+ ago. On a supply chain situation, the price from the pump shouldn't IMMEDITIATELY be raised just because some BS is happening somewhere else in the world. Because you know what? Once the smoke clears on whatever BS is happening, do you think they're gonna drop the price back to where it was overnight? Fuck no, they'll ride the prices down slowly as looooong as they can get away with it.

Capitalism is better than communism, but good lord does it open the doors for predatory interests to butt fuck the common man.

It will happen when the "progressives" wont all us to drill for oil within the USA.

Isn't it nice to see all of that equipment leave the gulf after the BP accident never to return?

I dont think a Civic would cost you $300 a month...

The only problem with "Drill Baby, Drill," is that if we drilled every place that can be drilled, pumped out every bit of oil that can be pumped, it wouldn't make much of a dent in our oil demands nor prices, and the oil companies would just sell it to who ever offered the highest prices.
The laws don't prohibit them from loading it into tankers and shipping it to China if that's where they'd get the best price.

Everyone knows this...but the Republican shills continue to ignore it.

And, once we've pumped our oil deposits dry...we'd be even more at the mercy of the OPEC nations. You think they can fuck us now? Just wait until we have ZERO oil to pump of our own...

When gas goes up we cry. When it goes down we don't think about it.
Gas was always out of control during Bush/Cheney, then pretty stable once Obama took over.
I figure Obama must have sold out during the last tax deal give in.
Some hidden inside tradeoff.
Or he invested heavily into Mobil/BP?
Maybe they held a gun to his head?
Or they have Obama sex tapes courtesy the CIA?
And now...
Oil and greed the name of the game once again...
I don't really mind high prices even VERY high prices, if it would cut down traffic volume.
But it never does.
Two things everyone finds allowance for, regardless of employment status or income... Cell phones and gas money.

I like how people are pretending gas wasnt already out of control.

Each time there is a spike, they raise the "normal" range on the way back down. It is a big scam.

Yep. If it spikes by $1.00, they lower it by 50 cents...and we get used to that...so the next spike of $1.00 seems harsh for a while...and they drop it by 50 cents...we get used to THAT for a while, and it spikes by $1.50. We scream and holler and start to build small efficient automobiles...and they reduce the price by $1.00...and we're happy.
The cycle continues...the oil companies continue turning in record profits..and the economy gets hurt a bit more each time...but the shareholders get their dividends.
