I thought new set of wheels + tires should cost about $500-700...

I got the CHEAPEST possible 18" wheels and CHEAPEST possible set of tires (that had 9.1 scpre) available for my car, Mazda 6i 2003

18x7 Kazera KZ-U Silver Painted
$149.00 each = $596.00
225/45WR18 Avon Tech M550 A/S
$131.00 each= $524.00

Grand Total: $1,181.93 ($60~ shipping)

Am I missing something? Why are they so expensive? Where do others get their deals?

Haha, thats quite cheap for 18" wheels.

Look up some BBS wheels and you'll soon realize how expensive they can get.

Cheapest 17" are only $30 cheaper per wheel. That's only $120 less for uglier wheels..

OK, so now go out to a tire shop in town and see what they want.

How did you think rims and tires would cost you 500-700? You need to have some sort of reference point.

Just to make my post useful:
My mazda uses 19" 195-50's.
In town they cost about 75-100 depending on whether they are all-weather or summer highway.

Tirerack wanted 55 plus 8 for shipping.

Dude, you obviously haven't bought wheels or tires before. Those prices are cheap compared to just about any other place you're gonna find.

18 inch

try 15 inch LOL.

$500-700?? yeah you can find such combo price in auto megazines with cheap 15" wheels and crappy generic tires. Price in tirerack.com is not very cheap but fair.

I look up wheels for my Mazda 6s on tirerack as well. I like the bronze color ones. I think it's gonna cost me like $1500 to $2000. can't afford them right now.

Is it your opinion that larger rims are better looking?

I want some HRE or IForge wheels but I don't have $4000-$5000 for just a set of wheels.

The only way you can get 18's for that much is if they're used and tires will need to be replacing soon.

Don't get 18" wheels. Get 17" wheels, and get 8" wide if they will fit. 18x7 is what you call pizza cutter, and will make you look like a ricer.

As long as tastefully done, generally yes. 18" is the perfect sweet spot. Anything smaller or larger is ugly imo.
