Those are ancient standoff screws for the motherboards of the very first computers that used to take up entire floors of office buildings.

They are called mortem posts. They are used by taxidermists to mount animals to backboards.

they're usually aluminium or nickel plated or stainless now, and often hexagonal so you can put a wrench on them.

Places like digikey and mouser will sell small ones for electronics (generally #4, #6, and #8 threads, probably not much bigger though).

Hmm. I should have taken a pic next to a measuring tape. These are an each inch long and like 3/8 in diameter.

I never said I didnt use em. Ive been using them as standoff for an aluminum plate for years. They were attached to the plate when I got them.
