If you register for an account, if you want to receive/send money to someone, you have do two of these three things.

[*]Add a credit card, they charge $1.95 to the card and you receive a four-digit Expanded use number that you have to enter in paypal.(incase of chargeback, this lets paypal to charge your credit card and you get a freaking charge on your creditcard)
[*]Add Bank accounk and verify the two small deposits they deposit in your bank account. (incase of chargeback, this lets paypal to debit money from your bank account and you get a freaking negative balance in your bank account)
[*]Add your SSN number. (another way to legally bind you to their freaking ass contract)

AVOID PAYPAL!!!

Edit: verifying deposits will give paypal a right to charge your cc/debit from your bank account.

I don't like it as a seller, but it sure is nice for purchases. It's also better than personal checks that bounce.

Uhm, as long as you don't send fraudulent funds or take someone's money and not send them the item you should be OK!

I've been using paypal for quite some time now and I honestly love the service.

Or receive fraudulent funds, or for that matter, receive legitimate funds but the buyer pretends it's fraudulent, after they took your item, left you negative feedback, and subscribed your email to the top 1000 spam list.

This is why you only deal with reliable and or trustworthy people. When I shop on ebay I certainly do not buy anything from anyone with negative evals. Also buy from someone who has a lot of feedback.

It's all about using common scence.

As a seller, I block people I know leave stupid negative feedback about shipping and handling costs, and other stupid stuff. I also put a warning about cancelling bids of people with excessive negative feedback or any other reason I see fit. I never realised the negative part of sniping until I started selling. It's hard to cancel a bid on a sniper.

WTF? I only have a credit card registered. No other info. If I were to be a new customer of theirs, I'd not register with them.

I have never had any problems with my Paypal account (knock on wood).

But I would NEVER EVER trust them with two things:
1) My SSN (if they ever requested it, I would close the account and go off on them)
2) My real bank account info. I opened a separate checking acct at my CU used only for Paypal transactions. So IF anything fishy were to ever go down, they'd access to a whopping $20 or so.

stop being so paranoid. they refund you the 1.95 after you verify the charge. they HAVVVE to do this because of all the d!cks out there who try to scam them and, indirectly, us. ive been using paypal for three years now and ive hit the occasional snafu and PITA problem but rarely has it been "all paypal's fault." their service makes online shopping/ebaying and stuff sooo much easier.

This isn't the thing that got me urked so fr when using paypal. I've been a satified paypal user for about 4 years now wiht absolutely no complaints until this week. Just last month i finally got in on the paypal debit card...and this thing was great...i charged just my regular groceries on it and i was getting money back for those transactions...it was slowly taking back the money they charged me for my transactions!!! whoo hoo!
Then yesterday i get an email telling me their "cash back" system for their debit card is going away unless you make them your only paying solution through ebay AND you must list AT LEAST 3 auctions per month on ebay (I dont list on ebay anymore damn theiving "auction" BIN site)...what a jip...damn Ebay screwing over a perfectly good system since they now own it...but its still been a great way for me to sell stuff on fs/ft here...
I think its a great fast and easy way to manage funds from auctions and the like...taking away their "cash back" is definately my second strike against them though....if they ever take money away from me without my knowledge or increase any more rates any time soon I'm outta there..

The only thing I don't agree with is the chargeback policy....there should not be their involvement on that. Unless it's a CC payment, there is no chargeback possible in my opinion, unfortunately many paypal crooks play this game.

I am all for them verifying the account.

I am also all for paying for the service...it's convenient for me.

Hi MrYogi,

"Edit: verifying deposits will give paypal a right to charge your cc/debit from your bank account."

The information above is incorrect. PayPal will only access the financial instrument if the user requests it off of the web site. In addition, PayPal does protect users from unauthorized transcations.

Note: There are very strong regulations concerning accessing bank accounts that PayPal must follow.

(another way to legally bind you to their freaking ass contract)

I don't see why it's wrong for Paypal to try to legally bind you to their LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT!
If you don't agree with the TOS or don't trust, them, don't use them like a bajillion other people who don't use Paypal.

Not to mention if someone buys from you and wants to cheat you out of money and you refuse, then paypal will freeze your account for months until they figure out what went wrong.
