WTF is this? Doesn't quite seem like a scam job.

Initial email was spammed to me, and I replied for the hell of it. They got me back with below:

Is this professional money laundering job to white collar criminals? LOL.

seems totally legit to me. With the $3,000/mo you're being paid, might I offer you a bridge that I have for sale in Brooklyn? Will let it go for only 3 months salary - it's a steal!

Probably sending in more than 10K and sending out smaller amounts to leave you with the tax bill since 10K+ are reported directly to the IRS.

I think you're onto something. Would I really be liable for the tax bill? I mean the company seems established with 401k and paid holidays. I can just tell IRS that it's company's funds?

I gotta admit, I wouldn't mind doing this on the side.

Ummm, you can't be serious.

seriously there's this new awesome website out called "Google." Have you ever thought about what might happen if you went to this Google and typed in the company name? The results could be... awesome!

You would be liable for the tax bill. All that money will show up as paid to you and the IRS doesn't care what happens next. Good ahead and give it a try, maybe the IRS will use lube....

I did, and always do.

The company site is legit (standard consulting firm). I searched for company name + scam / fraud and got nothing. Also did it with the position name. Nothing.

And I can't just report the company to fuck them over? That seems short sighted on the company's part.

I understand the economy is bad and a lot of people are hurting and want to be believe these things are not scams, but you seriously can't be this retarded.

You're not finding info on the company because the website went up on April 22, 2011 (not 2006). The registrant information is hidden, but the info that is available suggests this thing is being run out of China.

They'll have a new website in July. Use some common sense - there are tens of millions of people desperate for a job - do you really think any legitimate company needs to email spam a job that pays $3000/mo, benefits, 401k, etc. for someone to sit on their ass?

People would fight in a caged death match for something like that. Jesus Christ I hope my sarcasm meter just needs new batteries and you're really not this dense.

Of course not. I wouldn't take any job unless I spoke to them in person and there were already plenty of red flags. I was just curious as the scam wasn't as blatantly obvious.

That's why I came to you guys for help. That's not dense. 😛

Your google skills suck......

How do you look up website registration info?

I say take the job. Wait for the deposits to happen, then take the money and run. Hookers and Blow ftw.

How can there possibly be a down side to this...

I expect the blatantly obvious part of the scam comes in the next email.

They're going to send you a check. You're going to deposit it and then send the money back to them. Then the first check is going to bounce.

Once they said the bank account would be established in YOUR name, that's all you need to see to realize it's a scam. What company would recommend (or even allow) people to put company funds in employee's personal accounts?

Answer: zero.
