WTF is the point of the annoying 'you must test you settings before they will be applied' crap Coolbits gives you?

I have no idea what it does, but like i said in the title my max stable o/c changes from driver to driver, and sometimes when i need to back down on the core to stop artifacting in Lost Coast (the ultimate artifact tester ;)) the test function won't let me DROP the core speed 5mhz even (trying 570 back to 565, or even back to stock, 500)...

Sparkle AGP 6600GT@570/1145...the current drivers (81.95) are playing nice, but for the fast few sets i couldn't drop the core speed and past the test even at stock, which seems very strange and totally against all common sense.

Why can't they just warn you that in coolbits' humble opinion your new settings might be unstable, but let you apply them anyway...

I assume Nvdia includes this feature with Coolbits to save themselves the frantic calls and e-mails to their technical support staff from inexperienced video overclockers who set their values to high to even reboot Windows. The test your settings feature is probably meant to ensure that you can at least reboot. I agree with you that the feature is very frustrating when you are adjusting your core or memory settings near the limit and a failed test reverts you back to default or Nvidia optimal clock settings and you have to start gradually increasing your settings all over again.

Note to self--keep pen and paper handy so that you can record your last successful setting prior to failure.

actually, hit apply after every successful setting, it'll lock you there and when it resets it'll go back to that setting ;)

Just use Rivatuner. That thing irritated me too, especially as it would sometimes fail the test at stock speeds, but I don't use it at all anymore.

I know what you are saying Dug. I wanted to put the 2D clocks insanely low, to make heat and power consumption better, but for some reason it fails.
