It depends on the paint.

Nice lookin' Z.

Darker grays tend to shine more than the lighter silvers. It's because there is more black in the paint.

My Z is a very light silver and it still shines.
Silver doesn't really have a shine to it. I'm talking about color depth, reflection, etc. It is a nice color but doesn't "shine" even when new.

Hey OP, what color gray do Mustangs come in??? (trying to be funny, not add salt to the wound... what ever happened on that anyway????)

Because plain/boring sells.

I've seen some darker metallic grays that look really great - the one on the new Civics and Spiral Gray on Corvettes come to mind.

My dad's Silverado Sport has a really nice charcoal paintjob that turns a dark purplish hue in the right light... very cool looking.

I think it's shiny, but I guess everyone's impressions are different. I'll let you decide:

About the same as mine. I just don't think it is "shiny".

A major advantage to grey cars is that they are less noticeable on the road, and therefore are pulled over less frequently.

The thing about silver is that its look depends on the ambient light and surroundings. In the morning with the sun shining at a sharp angle, the cars color will look pretty deep, while if it's a dull, overcast day, the car will almost look white or gray. I think it needs contrast.

Example of a lack of contrast:

As far as "shiney" goes, it's not gloss, but silver is a nice reflective color. Rather than provide a mirror like reflection it gives off a sparkley reflection.

because they show dirt the least, you can't see the swirl marks in the paint casued by washign and scratchign like you can with other colors especially black. and they look simple with a higher resale value (you may like a bright blue or yellow car but try selling one lol)
