WTF is eBay DOING?!

I put a white 16GB iPhone 3GS 16GB on eBay. It's somewhat valuable because it has an older bootrom chip and can always have an untethered jailbreak.

Because the baseband (modem firmware) currently can't be downgraded or unlocked, I thought it would add value to register the UDID with an Apple developer and install / jailbreak iOS5 beta2 (won't be officially released to the public until this fall).

So the auction description is: "Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB White RUNNING iOS5 BETA2 !!!"

I paid extra for a large image to appear in search results. I specifically started the auction after 11:00PM EST last night so it will end a week from now at 11:XX EST next Sunday night (when people are at home). I started the bidding at $1 so people would add it to their watch lists and maybe they'd all start bidding at the same time (this has always worked out well for my 1-week auctions).

When I try to search for my auction, I can't find it! Instead, eBay suppresses results and makes you choose a condition (new, used, etc), so there's no way for my auction to stand out when someone simply searches for "iPhone 3GS."

Even worse, there are "no results" when I search for "iPhone 3GS 16GB iOS5" and click "Used!"

HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO SELL SOMETHING THIS WAY?!

Also, there was a bid within minutes of submitting the auction, so I can't revise it to add details or fix the broken link in the description.

HOW THE HELL DID THAT BIDDER FIND THE AUCTION IF I CAN'T FIND IT MYSELF?

After MULTIPLE repeated searches with Chrome, it finally started showing accurate search results. Every time I'd type "IOS5 BETA2" I'd get results that have no mention of IOS5, and I'd still have to click "View all listings" to get any results at all. It's as if eBay interprets the search as "white iPhone 3GS 16GB" and won't narrow the search results, no matter what additional terms are used.

I'm still having that problem with Internet Explorer and I can't figure out why Chrome stopped doing it.
 
I blame it on your ebay name being "cyberzer0" and ebay can't handle the fact that you have the word zero and the number next to each other. 😛

WTF?! Now IE is showing normal again. I had to use Safari to it!

It's like eBay is deliberately fucking with me until I give up for a while, then it shows normal search results when I try again.

When I search for "iPhone 3GS iOS5" and get a screen like that, I click "Used" and get a whole bunch of phones that do not say "iOS5" anywhere in the auctions. Even worse, my auction doesn't show in those results for some reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if ebay nixed your auction for trying to sell the phone with an unreleased OS on it.

I'd be surprised if Apple were cool with it.

Lots of people on eBay are selling their developer UDID slots on eBay (specifically for iOS5).

Besides, Apple prevents you from downgrading iPhones (though I have SHSHs that allow me to downgrade this one). An Apple developer can upgrade to a new phone and sell an old one, so he would normally be forced to leave the beta OS on there.

It sounds like you were searching for it right after listing the item. New listings usually take about 10 minutes or so to show up.

I'm not doubting you, I just wouldn't be surprised if those auctions started disappearing after Apple notice them.

Nothing strange about it, and definitely NOT "coincidence."

We have always shared the same eBay account since we used to live together. I don't want to start a new account with a feedback rating of 0. Our account is the oldest eBay account I know of.

Thanks. There area bunch of different ways they can confirm that my brother has been posting from California for the last couple years and I have been posting from GA.

There's nothing at all unusual about my brother and I sharing our eBay account.

Nope. I was searching just now. I listed the auction last night, and it had a bid within minutes.

Anyway, Slew Foot was right that I had to change it to "Ending Soonest", which I normally only do when I have a list of VALID search results. That's why the first two browsers eventually started displaying correctly, even when I submitted a new search.

So I had to:
-Search
-Pick a category like "used" (and get a bunch of results that DO NOT mention "iOS5")
-Pick "Ending Soonest"
-Go to the last page
-Verify that mine is not there
-Search again (finally getting valid results because "Ending Soonest" has already been selected)
-Go through valid results
-Find my auction

Twins share everything. You are only confirming that what we say is true. I actually signed up here under "CyberZer0" but had a mod change it long ago.
