Been hanging out a lot with this cool chick. Funny as hell, cutish face, chubby, but she keeps telling me she's foodie and all the places we're going to. I refuse to google that, I just assume it means just that, someone who loves to eat.

Am I in the minority? There is nothing great about just stuffing my face, I only eat so that I'm not hungry. Once I'm full I'm done. If I'm not hungry at dinner time I just don't eat. Are foodie girls destined to be whales? There are just about 2 things that really turn me off, people who smoke and fatass people. Should I drop this before it becomes real awkward?

I like the fact the OP is too lazy to google it, but instead will post 2 paragraphs here for a response.

I think its more referencing someone to appreciates good food. Not necessarily that they like to eat.

As a foodie I say don't do it. She'll be infuriated by your lack of taste and you'll hate her for being so snobby.

Being a foodie is about quality, not quantity.

Two easy questions you can use to determine comparability: does spending more than 100pp bother you? Does going to a place with a rating of B (or less) bother you?

If you answered yes to either one of these questions...

Foodie != fattie

My brother's gf is a self-described foodie. They go to all sorts of different restaurants and places to sample food, but she doesn't eat like a horse. She's thin.

Maybe Food Snob is a better term for the OP to understand.

As others have stated, foodie doesn't mean fattie.

GF and I both love eating at various restaurants, trying different types of food, and overall just enjoy a good meal...we also go to the gym on a regular basis and try to be in good shape.

But, considering she's already chubby to begin with means she probably doesn't work off all that food she may eat.

You could luck out. A foodie normally likes to cook so she can make you yummy dishes.

If she doesn't cook, that just means she likes to eat at fancy restaurants on your dime.

This glaring difference should decide your course.

a foodie is someone who would rather take pictures of their food and write on their weblog about what they're eating than actually eat it :colbert:

Foodie is a food snob. I like people who appreciate good food and what goes in to making good food, but referring to ones self as a "foodie" sounds pretentious.

I like food, but am not sure I qualify as a foodie. I prefer good food, but I won't go to fancy restaurants and pay for ambiance.

Everyone loves food and can appreciate good food(well most), I generally find people that call themselves foodies are egotistical know it alls. Unless you're a chef, you're just an idiot with an opinion.

LOL! That's pretty close to true!

I'm a foodie, which means I have would prefer to try new foods than have the same stuff all the time, I like high quality ingredients and I like chefs who know what they're doing. I don't tend to eat a lot of foods out of a box and I've found out it's as fast to make gourmet macaroni with parmesan and truffle oil as it is to pour some Kraft into water.

I'm about 5'5" and 115 lbs. Generally foodies eat healthier than other folks because they take fresh ingredients over pre-packaged, and eat more meals than snacky food.

I consider myself a foodie but try to stay away from fancy/expensive places. It's about finding great food/places that are hopefully cheap eats. Also, about trying out new things, going to Ethiopian, Afghani, etc places.

Instead of McDonald's, I'd rather go to Bartley's or O'Sullivans(both local burger joints). Instead of Olive Garden, I'd rather go to Avellinos in Medford for good/cheap or Giacomo's in the North End for great.

I don't get the negative connotation as it shouldn't be. In my mind it just means people who like good food. That could be an incredible burger at a dive bar, a home cooked meal that took all day with good common ingredients, a simple hors'duvre or a 4-5 star restaurant. As long as it tastes exceptional.

foodie =/= food snob. Food snob is just that, a food snob. If you demand your lettuce be flown in daily from the plains watered by natural spring water you're no foodie, you're a food snob.
