I kinda feel for this guy. I once had two phone screens and 2 days worth of interviews with 6 different people at a company that was located 1,500 miles away! The one other guy who they interviewed for the position ended up getting the job... what a complete waste of time.

The second job that I interviewed for was a single group interview that lasted 20 minutes. I got a job offer two days later.

Good plan. This is likely a test to see if you will show up. Why would they do redundant work if they have already done an interview? You are in for sure.

Think about it this way. The employer wants to purchase something and spend a pretty penny for it. They found a few models (employees) that may be a good fit after browsing around the store to see what features were out there.

Now they want to take a closer look at the narrowed choices before making a decision on the purchase and make a value decision. Doesn't everybody do that for major purchases? Or do you just spend 100K+ on something you haven't made sure is a good fit for what you wanted?

I'd hire you just for the satisfaction of firing you a couple days later.

For all the internships and jobs I applied for, I don't think any were less than 2-3 rounds.

I do interviewing for my current program. The first round is all fluf to gauge your technical skills and make sure you aren't lying on your resume. The second round is where we drill down more into your behavioral characteristics, the third round is designed to assure fit within the program.

Well my first one lasted almost two hours. I think I demonstrated that I had a gist of a few programs (arcmap, autocad, excel) and I don't really know what else they would need to know.

Often they have one group do the first interview and then do the second interview with people that are busier so they only want to see the final cut. First interview is to screen out the morons. Second interview is to actually chose who they want.

Damn... I never even did an in-person interview for my internship! It was a 30 minute group phone screen.

Ususally 2nd interview is either with higher ups or with the people you would directly interact with.

Did they probe you? Don't feel guilty if you liked it, that's why they called you back.

ha - for my current job, I had 3 separate phone interviews (an hour each), a programming "homework assignment", and then an in person interview that consisted of 6 different one hour interviews.

both of my second interviews were on location, i was flown out to the companies location and then toured the facility and interviewed with the real people i would be working with. I received a very nice job offer from my the second company. 62k + benefits, company truck, computer. I will be accepting the offer at the end of the week.

way to go, you are exactly why they have second round interviews, to weed out the rif raff.
You are interviewing the company to see if they are a good fit for you as much as they are seeing if you are going to make money for them.

The second interview would be the interview that occurs after the initial interview, and perhaps before the third.

Its the "informal" interview where you can relax, let your guard down, and feel free to talk about things like your sex life, political views, and odd personal habits like biting your toe-nails. Really, the 2nd interview is where candor can only be a plus for you. :D

Exactly! Be sure to tell them your username here, they'll get a big chuckle out of it.

1st round needs to be a phone interview (and I'm pretty sure they can tell if you're looking stuff up). I know they're making a big investment, but putting your best foot forward once should be all that's needed. Respect for one's time should work both ways.

Sometimes the second interview is more behavioral in nature. It seems to be very common to have at least two rounds of interviews. I have a on-site interview scheduled for next March...

LMAO...1pm is too early? anyways two is easily within the realm of normal. I recently had 8 interviews for a position x_x...and there were still others candidates that they were interviewing (last i heard!)
