Ok... a few days ago it would have cost me about $150 for a retail slot 1 P3-750e...

Now there are virtually no vendors carrying such a chip! I could buy OEM from some cheapA$$ place with sh!t service for 111 $US... then add 15 $US for HS+Fan and 15 $US for a slotket that might not even work... and then they f*cking rape you on shipping for 15+ $US... comes out to... well more than 150 goddam dollars and without warranty.

Price cuts my As$. F*ck high prices on Intel chips. Going AMD next time.

Upgrading is just incredibly frustrating for people with old slot 1 systems. I'd have no problem purchasing a retail flip chip... but I'm warry of using a slotket on my Intel OEM board.

Several people have suggested Asus, Abit, and MSI slotkets... another 20 bucks out the door. fsck fsck fsck!!!

Been having a bad day... :(

Edit: Built an AMD 1GHz Athlon/KT133A system with a friend not too long ago - was painless to build... very reliable under windows2000.

I'm on an old Slot 1 Abit BX-62 using a slotekt Abit p3 700 and it's been OK, but I really want AMD for price and for performance :). Also, hopefully it will be more upgrade friendly than having to replace the motherboard EVERY time I upgrade (about once per year).

Other peoples milage may vary, but thisis not acceptable to me. I want intel for stability. Systems really are fast enough today, that a 5% performance difference is not a big deal. I don't want flaky hardware. </rant>

I dunno... you may have just had a bad mobo or bad luck with another component... this is why I want a slot 1 processor - I don't want a slotket to fvck up my sysem... the fewer parts i have to buy the better!

time to bite the bullet and get a new mobo/cpu. a duron and msi combo would not be much more than the prices you're quoting. thomsons computer has a MSI K7TPro2-A w/Duron 800Mhz CPU combo for US$ 187.00.

You can't beat that with a stick. :D

Some big price cuts coming from Intel on April 29.
You might wanna wait for another two weeks.

Ok... the best I can get this for is a little less than $150 retail or about the same OEM + F/HS + Slotket... even with the price cuts the price isn't fvcking moving because vendors are simply not carrying the 750e boxed anymore :(

I'm just waiting for P3 850 prices to drop to current P3 750 prices, so I'll get a dual P3 850 setup on a dual BX board.

RDRAM is still expensive, 850 motherboard is still expensive, so Intel is taking a great risk to sell their processors. I like AMD, but I don't want Intel to go under either just for the sake of having a competitive CPU market.

So I don't know anymore if you found a retail 750 or not, but here's a reliable place that has em in stock for $149 + $6.25 shipping:
