WTF, I'm gettin sound from only one speaker!

I have never had this problem before. It was working last night and all of a sudden now my right channel doesn't seem to be working. I'm using the Midiland S2-4100 & a Live! 5.1 . I know it's not the right speaker b/c when I plug the speakers into my laptop I get both channels fine. I never changed any settings in windows last night that should cause this, so I am totally clueless! I know it's not just WMP7 b/c I also get the same results with games and the speaker test. Does anyone have ANY idea how to fix this?

EDIT: Okay I just fixed it... all it needed was a scandisk and restart to fix the problem! Damn windows, you never know what to expect!

Thanks for the help guys!

did you try checking your speaker settings ie 2 or 4 speaker configuration in the creative mixer. something similiar happened with me & by playing around with the settings sorted it!
btw is your connection to the soundcard fully home? I'm sure you've checked that already but never hurts to ask!

I've heard of this problem happening in Windows many times. Checking your volume settings and L-R balance sliders should fix your problem. Make sure you have all volume settings visible so you can make sure all balances are centered.

that's odd, everytime I change speaker configuration (ie 2, 4, 5.1) I get this odd noise out of my right speaker. It's like 2 thuds. The left speaker however doesn't do the same... maybe it's the soundcard... I hope creative has a Wuarantee!

Also check your winamp or other MP3 player. I had that problem and it kept throwing my balance into one speaker when I would start Winamp.

I also tried the left-right balance control on my speakers AND in the creative surround mixer... no dice 🙁

I sure hope it's not the card

Might also be a bad speaker. Check your balance sliders though that's almost always the source of the problem. More than likely if one channel on a soundcard isn't working, the sound card won't work at all.

In winME I believe the sliders are in Control Panel -> Sounds and then turn on "Show volume control on taskbar" or something similar. Double click the horn looking thing (trumpet) on your task bar, click Options -> Properties and turn on all the settings. This will allow you to view the various balance sliders at the top of the volume control.

Same thing has happened with my Live! Value. I have been trying everything to get the right channel back... About to get it RMA'd

whoops, turns out that left-right slider was there the entire time. I just didn't see it. Too bad it didn't do much for me... still don't have sound on the right channel 🙁

Oh and as I said, the speakers work fine on my laptop, so it can't be the speakers

L vis: yea that's what I immediately thought of too... I made sure to check every possible source of connection between speakers, sub, and soundcard... everything is nice and snug as it should be

Keep the volume control open while playing a sound file and make sure that the balance on ALL the volume controls are STAYing centered, it's possible the program playing the sound file is altering the balance as soon as actual sound is being played.

If you're using liveware goto "speaker setup" and choose "effects" on the left hand side.
Make sure your "bunch" of yellow icons representing various sound types is centered in front of the drawing of the sitting person and not to one side.
